ground? ecu? ignition problem?

okay folks, this is been really aggravating me for the past week so please someone, i would really appreciate your help.

car: 1990 TII w/ jspec motor. starting driving it the last week of june.

problem: so a couple weeks ago i get up and start my car. starts up fine, little smoke, no problems.

seconds later i back out of the driveway and put it into first. and as soon as i get it rolling, my car starts stuttering, bouncing really bad. and the same time this is happening, the lights that are lit in my idiot cluster are flickering, i hear this clicking noise, and also my a/f gauge is going crazy and my car is backfiring.

later though when it warms up it runs fine and boosts fine with no problems. (this goes on for 2 weeks)

***the day after i got my car back i hooked up the newest gtech. when i started my car and rolled in gear, the tach would die. it would do this everytime i started up.***also for about a week my idle kept bouncing at 1500rpm which meant my TPS was acting up but its fine now***

so i read that the trailing coil is failing if that happens. so i get another coil from my other 7 and it seems fine at first but as soon as i start rolling i get all that flickering effects and hesitations and backfiring like crazy.

i take my 7 to my shop that installed my jspec and they tell me to let the engine run. so im sitting there and while its running my mechanic is standing on the driver side fiddling with something that is causing my electrical stuff to flicker.

he then hooks up this SNAP ON diagnostic computer and it reads MAP sensor and also ECU/Ignition.

my MAP (pressure sensor) is N370. thats the proper one for my car right? 90 TII? it also has a FCD connected to it. my ECU though, im not sure because the sticker is scratched off. so could that be my problem right there? if so, should i be getting the N374 or N370 ECU?

budget is too low for a stand alone right now.

what do you guys have to say about my dilemma?

Well, what was the mechanic "fiddling" with that caused the lights to flicker? Sounds like he found the problem there. Was he anywhere around the alternator wiring, or battery cables, or the chassis ground on the left strut tower?

Check your charging circuit cable that attaches at the top, then, below the boot & 8mm nut, if it's loose, that would explain a lot...
