Ground Control coilovers install question

So I got my ground controls in the mail the other day and I was just looking at them and the "instructions" if you could really call them that. The instructions are really vague and pretty much just pictures, and while looking at pictures on ground control's site I came up with a couple questions.

Is there a "minimum" length of threading that has to come out the bottom of the perch? Ground Control's website said to expect 0-1.5" but when I have the threading fully threaded into the perch but not coming out of the bottom (any extra that is) at all the remaining threading is 2" long. Plus in all of the pictures on their site it seems like there is about 1/4" to 1/2" of threading that comes out of the bottom of the perch (at least that much) in all of the pictures.

So should there be any threading coming out of the bottom of the perch or does it matter at all? It seemed like it didn't matter because after you tighten it the perch should still be plenty tight against the threads, right?

Thanks for any help.

$411.00 after shipping.

NEW PROBLEM.

The rear tokico illumina struts have the short spacer perminately attached to them and I cannot get the top part of the ground controls onto them. Any ideas?

They are 411 shipped for the set of 4 spring/coilover setup, does not include shocks.

Hopefully I'll be installing these this weekend if I can work out the problems and if it doesn't snow.

Here's a pic.

From the crappy instructions they sent (the diagram) the spacer that is stopping this cap looks like it's supposed to be on top of the cap. I thought the cap was supposed to rest on the spring?

It will rest on the spring once the shock is compressed. Unless I'm not understanding what you're saying.

See the metal "Spring Hat" as they call it in the diagram sitting about 3-4" above the spring? That metal disc? That thing wont move any further down because the short spacer is perminately attached to the strut rod.

On the fronts there is no spacer perminately attached and the Spring Hat sits on top of the spring. Also, in the diagram they give the "short spacer" looks like it goes on top of the Spring Hat but I have no way to get it past it.

Unless I'm missing something here? Are the stock shocks like this with the spacer? Any help is appreciated.

So there is a short spacer directly below the spring hat right? When you install the shock and lower the car the spring hat should lower with the shock as it compresses and then will rest on it. Try to compress the shock manually and see if it will rest on the spring.

Ugh. It's been way too long of a day. You're right it compresses right down to the spring.

I don't know enough about suspension I guess.

The whole problem I was having is that they don't give any written directions for the ground control coilovers, just a couple diagrams. And in the diagram for the rear they show a short spacer ABOVE the hat, I thought this was the short spacer, apparetly it must not be.

Thank you for the help.

Yeah...remember you are working with a un-compressed strut. Once the strut is compressed the spring/cap will seat onto each other.

oh..i though he bought adjustable coilovers for 411 dollars. That would be crazy, as I haven't found any decent ones for under 1,500.

those are coil overs. and they are ~$400 on ground control's website for 4x coilover sets (adjustable perches and linear rate eibach springs)

http://www.ground-control-store.com/...hp/II=41/CA=23

my opinion is that other kits are overpriced.

if you want to add in the cost of the shocks, say a KYB AGX set, add another $400 to that.

Dont forget to add camber plates on top of the shocks and possibly a rear camber adjuster depending on how low you go.
