thanks chaps

still confused about the IC above though

why would you have the AFM IN the IC - surely the AFM controls air entering the turbo , not the air gong into the IC - unless im missing the point here ???

i thought you would leave the intake side alone ( cone , AFM , turbo ) and then just fit the IC normally ( from turbo to the throttle body intake ) ?

The AFM doesn't control the air, it just tells the ecu what the mass/volume of the air is that's entering the engine.

The theory is broad terms behind putting it in the IC piping is this.

The restriction comes from the volume of the air passing through it, so putting the AFM sensor after the compressor (since the volume after the compressor is less than before the compressor) should decrease the restriction that the AFM sensor posses.

Do a search on here if your interested others are bound to have covered it in more technical detail than the rough outline I gave here. I'm not saying it's correct, just one of the reason it's done. The 2nd reason why it's done is so the turbo can be run without an air filter/pod. I buy all my stuff dirrect from japan and most turbo's show signs of having been run without a filter..

There's nothing stopping you fitting the ic normally, I guess I just picked a confusing pic to demonstrate with

with good reason! those things are hideous! the only cars i see with louvers these days are 80s camaros, all driven by rednecks

arghx - nice comment - rare as hens teeth in the UK - in fact i can honestly say i have NEVER seen one on a rx7 - thats why i wanted one - the only one in the UK

Worm Burner - makes sense - so i assume that you can just stick a cone filter on the end of the turbo and thats fine ... you learn something new every day

Thanks Chaps

Yere you can just fit a cone/pod filter there, but honestly speaking keep your afm where it is. Much easier

Another thing with the AFM, there's a way to remove it and keep the stock ecu if your interested. It's called a hks VPC (discontinued now), but if you look around and have patience your able to get these for around 110-120 quid delivered to you from japan.
