greaat car wont start

okay over the weekend i installed a fuel sock, spark plug, spark plug wires, and changed the oil. i drove it and the car felt way better.

in the morning i drove the car to school less than a mile away from home. it drove fine. then after school i try starting it and it wouldn't start. also sometimes when i try to start it the starter would hesitate for a second. when i crank it, it sounds like it wants to start. also i got the car to start once but then it died out about 15 seconds later. any idea what it could be.

This is very frustrating im a high school student and problems keep on occurring and i don't even have money.

Lol... welcome to my world...

I'd try unflooding it first. Then check for spark and fuel.

by "fuel sock" I assume you mean the sock to the fuel pump right?

A little more info about your starting problems please. Is it an auto or manual? Does it act like it wants to start then go back to cranking only?

it is manual yes it is exactly like you said it (randomhero) sometimes starts to only 500k rpm then dies immediately

heh flooded, 1 mile to school is NOT good, you never warmed up
pop the hood, remove ALL the fuses except MAIN (over kill but whatever it will work)
if the battery is weak jump it
crank the engine a few times to clear out the crap in it
reinstall the fuses

ok you need a second person for MY FIX (works every time for me)

hold two rags over the exhaust and have someone crank the engine, try it with NO PEDAL for a few cranks it SHOULD turn over, you are gonna get BLASTED with smoke so be ready for that
if it doesn't crank FLOOR IT DO NOT PUMP THE PEDAL ITS NOT CARB ITS FUEL INJECTION
once the thing starts make sure they let go of the pedal don't want super high RPMS with no oil pumping yet

if still nothing, you may have to pop out the spark plugs and put a little oil in there to help build compression, but the rags should do this for you

good luck and let the car warm up next time 1 mile drive is not good...

oh yea, don't just hold the key in the start position, a few seconds then let go and try again, nothing more than what it normally takes to start 1 one thousand 2 one thousand 3 one LET GO

Well, that hesitation to crank could be a twitchy clutch switch. Mine does something similar and I sometimes have to stab the clutch a couple times before she will actually crank. But as Mike said, short trips that don't allow the car to reach full operating temp can sometimes lead to flooding.

If it is really not starting after a lot of cranking, it could get flooded so pull your egi fuse and crank it over a few times. This will dump that excess fuel into the exhaust so she'll backfire a bit once it does start unless you pull the plugs and such like mike suggested.
