Got my Jspec! PICS inside!

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!! Got the Jspec from SDRotary(SPD Racing).
Now I have the main parts for my TII conversion for my GTU.

The turbo is kinda rusty but I just got it to move. I just sprayed it with some cleanber hoping to remve some gunk.

Soon I'll strip it to short block and get it ready to be sent out to be rebuilt.
While it's out for rebuild I'm going to polish manifolds and port the wastegate.

Here's the pics.
Pic of whole thing except turbo(took it off already)

Here's thr Intercooler. The owner slapped a Amemiya sticker over the 13b turbo one.

Pic of turbo taken off the manifold.

Here's pics of the rusty intake side. The hot side seemed to be fine. I plan to soak them in a part cleaner and then brush off any extra crap.

I'm no expert, but the inside of that turbo looks bad to me.

tight, turbo looks nasty, but if you say you can clean it, then let it be cleaned!

Damn, that thing looks rough. The turbo and the engine.

BE careful with that turbo. I have seen corroded turbos like that, once they were put into use, the corrosion weakened the compressor wheel and caused blades to bend and shatter, and small chunks of metal do not get along well with engines.

It looks a little worse then it is.

It's mainly surface stuff. I sprayed some cleaner on it and it got mushy and somehwta wiped off and the turbo then spun freely.

The fact that it spun freely does not surprise me. The bearing is pretty strong, and can only be damaged by heat or lack of lube. However, the turbo blades are VERY thin and weak (they have to be, to be so lightweight and spool quickly). A little corrosion can weaken them a lot.

Good luck, though.

I'm going to take the turbo apart and check it out when I port the hotside. If it's bad then I'll look for a stocker off of ebay. Maybe S5 if it's cheap. I understand what you mean by weakening the thin fins.

The engine itself was actually not very bad. The IC surrounding part with the Amemiya on it had a few dents but the IC only had small fin damage and most hoses on the thing were in good condition or replaced.

There is a small amount of rust on the Intake manifold but looks like it can easily be cleaned up.
I'm going to be going through all the parts and checking them before I put the engine back together.

no warranty. It's a core. I plan to just get it rebuilt instead of my initial plan of getting a running Jspec and dropping it in.

How much did you pay for it, and how many miles (approx)?

the S5 core go for $550.00 and have around 30,000 miles on them. The motors look a little dirty because we used to have them cleaned but no matter what they did to try to block off on the openings water would leak in, we have found on some of the cores that we could work the seals a little bit to get the comp. up.

IMO, jspecs are excellent cores for rebuild and *then* install. Not the other way around. That is a great price for said core, as well, for a whole longblock. That is the *only* way I'd ever install a jspec. IF youre doing a conversion, this is the way to go.

SDRotary, my friend Ryan bought a jspec off you yesterday IIRC.

GOt any core blocks you wanna sell cheap (read:$200 or less)?

I was going to go Jspec drop in but your prices for rebuilds swayed me to go the dependable engine way.
I'll talk with you Kevin in about a week once I strip this thing down and check it out.

BTW this one was a S4 engine which was even harder to find in stock.

Do you have any way of proving that mileage? Based on the mileage of the FC's over here (all ex-Japan) I find 30,000 miles a bit hard to believe...

Rotary Resurrection so far has the best prices out.

For the S4 TII's he is around $1300 plus shipping.

CRUSTY CRUST, are you sure thats an s4? cuz it's got 10 blades on the fan (s5) and i'm pretty sure s4 has 8. I dont know if thats a fact or maybe not.

Several things on that motor look s5 to me...thermostat neck, fan, turbo exhaust housing (though the compressor housing looks like s4, by the 2S designation which is twin scroll, s4).

Looks like something somebody's rigged up in japan, or something.

They used to pressure wash the used j spec but they always leaked some water in, so they don't wash them, anymore.
