Got Fuel, Spark, and Crank...Why No Start?

Well, the saga continues. I tested the spark yesterday, and I have plenty of that (OUCH!) I also have fuel, cuz I keep flooding it as I try to start it! I also have starter because when I removed the plugs to unflood it, I could hear the rotors turn, as loud as ever, so I know that the starter is turning the engine, and I have LOTS of compression, so no blown engine. My question is this:If the starter is intact enough to turn the engine enough for me to hear the "pft-pft-pft" of the rotors turning, then can it still be bad enough to not start the car? What else should i check? All electrics work, and the in dash battery gause reads "12v" with the key turned to on, and about "10v" as I crank the engine! Any help?

Unflooded it twice, and then tried it again with the plugs out to make sure. Still won't start. My new starter should come in the mail tomorrow, so we'll try that, then I'll get back to ya!

Oh yeah, today it "popped". Sounded like it combusted once. Is this a good sign?

i had the same problem when i got mine. do the ATF trick, and let it sit. do a search for the ATF trick if you dont konw what it is already.... and then, get new plugs. just get 2 leading plugs. after ATF ing my car, it still wouldnt start. but then, i got a new set of plugs and boom, fired right up. another thing, check to make sure you dont have any vaccumm leaks. if you want to be 100% positive your engine is firing, pull the trailing plugs and have someone crank the car. if you see maaaad flames coming out of the holes, then, i dunno what the problem is.

Ideas? Yes. Make a fuel cut sw. Helps. There is a relay next to the steering wheel that most people tap into but due to circumstances, I go to the fuel pump connector mounted on the aft side of the left rear strut tower, and cut into the blue wire and put the sw b/t the two pieces of the blue wire. I do run extra wire from each part of the blue wire so the sw will be in my hand when starting the car.
Before yu do this, try this with someone helping. Disconnect the connector on the left rear strut. Try starting the car with your foot to the floor. With a littlle luck the car will start momentarily and die. Then you can have your buddy reconnect the connector and you try again. If it floods right away, pull the plug apart and floor it again. The very moment the car starts you fellow traveler slams that connector back together. Gotta go now.
Just a note here: I agree with everyone that the sensible place for the fuel cut sw is from the relay under the dash, near the steering colunm. Never said I was sensible. I just found it easier for me to do the fuel pump connector. Don't like under dash work atall.

I am gonna get some more ATF and new plugs tomorrow, and i will try it again. I did the ATF trick about 2 months ago, and it started flooding right after that. It never flooded before that though. Hmmm. Thanks guys!

If you have fuel, good spark, good compression, and the ATF thing doesn't yeild results, I was wondering if you checked to see if you have a plugged catalytic converter?

Just a thought,

I had an intermittent, intermittent starting problem that drove me crazy for two years. It would start fine for months, then fail to start, eventually start again, then begin the cycle again(always when cold). I tried everything to no avail. Then I replaced the ground wire(which had good continuity) between the back of the motor and the firewall(passenger side) and I have not had the problem in over two years. This is a cheap fix that I would try next. If this doesn't do it, try two or three squirts of ATF from a squirt can into each rotor, install plugs and if you are low on compression it will help it start. Good luck.

I just put an extra plug I had lyin around in each wire, and held it to the fender well(inside so I did not hurt the paint) and had my roommate crank the key. Only do this for a second, any more an BUZZZZZ! It really dosen't hurt, if it is only for a second. Kinda tingled for 5 minutes though! Just make sure and keep all fingers away form the actual plug itself. Just hold the boot.
