Got a factory CD player... Antennna wont work.

Everything plugged right in with minimal modification.

The radio which came out was the better tape player with the EQ, and the one which went in was a factory CD player I belive came out of a convertible.

I cannot get my power antenna to work properly! what the heck is going on?? everything is plugged in!!!

DOGH!! what a pain in the butt! is there some way I can make a manual switch for my antenna?? These damn wiring diagrams got me stumbling over myself.

When I was working at Car Toys, a stereo shop around here, I had the same problem whe I put in my cd player. I had one of my installer friends check it out, and he had to wire a relay into the antenna lead. I'm not sure how he did it, but if I get the chance, I'll pull it out and let you know.

The power antenna in domestic cars run on a positive lead for the power antenna. Mazda uses a negative feed for the power antenna in the RX-7. Obviously, aftermarket stereos use a positive signal like a stock domestic stereo does.

You will need to purchase a relay. Go down to a local car stereo shop, any one will work. Hell, I got one at Best Buy. They wired the relay up, black taped the leads so they looked clean, and wrote down which wire was which. There is only three wires, can't remember which is which though. The relay only cost me like $5, maybe it was $10.

yea i work at Best Buy and I had to buy one for mine and found the wiring diagram on here cant remember what it was but was 3 wires like you said. ANd I got it for like $1.50 with my discount hehe

EDIT= Found the relay info you will need.

85 and 30 both to ground.
86 to the power antenna or amp turn on output from the aftermarket radio.
87 to the power antenna wire in the car.
87a (if on the relay) not used.

Thats all you need.

Nick

BTW this is a factory CD player that came out of a Mazda RX7. Why is it not just plug and play?? I did notice that this unit is a Pioneer and the other factory radio is a Clarion.

I have blank relays here, just want to make sure that this factory pioneer cd player (from Convertible RX7) has a POSITIVE antenna feed as opposed to a neg antenna feed.???

*EDIT* just to make this clear again, I removed my factory tape player and installed a factory CD player. Should be plug and play right? nope! antenna dont work. I dont want aftermarket stuff cause it all gets stolen from me.

Check your plugs... sounds like you put the antenna lead in the wrong spot:

Remember you will need to loop the CD through the AE system, and plug the cassette power into the AE instead of to the factory harness as before. The AE system will then send a signal to the antenna.

The cassette output power plug will still plug into the back of the radio.

You will not be able to replace the factory Tape with a CD, only to add the CD and AE to an existing radio and tape.

If you are thinking that the two leads coming out of the CD are turn on, they are not. They are to loop the constant power through the cassette deck.

The only turn on lead from the CD is in the cable in PIN 1.

I got the entire block unit from a coworker. This unit came with the radio, tape, and cd player. Do I still have to use my original radio and tape player??

Man this is soo confusing. I'll play with it more this weekend I guess.

The CD player actually sounds decent and looks so awsome in the dashboard. Wish I could say the same about the radio, but my antenna is stuck down and I barely get anything from that windshield crap.

What the hell is the AE system for anyways?? it's only a mute button that takes up an a 1x5 inch space. This whole radio is about 25 lbs!!!

The Raido you got is the one from a Vert. they are very confusing.. mine seems to over heat very easily in the summer.... Someone told me that if you put something else in a vert you have to buy all of these "special" parts and i was like WHAT ?... but, yeah they are really good systems if you can keep them COOL... but, that's my problem.. i dont really know if anyone else if having the same problem... also, do you know if you have to have the AE System when you put in a new cdplayer or will the new cd player just work fine ?

My Simple Fix;

Ground the LY (Blue/Yellow) wire to the radio's chassie. Unfortunately only the key raises and lowers the antenna but at least I have radio now.

Check out this picture of the whole unit! It looks so natural. I hate those gaudy new units.

NOTE: The volume controls (and enourmous mute control button) are on the right side. I have to kind of reach to adjust things. Must be cause in Japan the driver sits on the passenger side!

Also, I got my A/C working!!! YEAY!!!!!!!!

IT still sounds like you have it plugged in wrong.

That is where you are having the problem.

Again to make it work:

Plug the AE system into the car's harness, and plug the tape cassette, into the AE and the the Tuner.

I think you have the cassette plugged into the tuner and the car harness and not looped through the AE system properly.

*edit The AE system you have is for the convertible. It is a preset eq and sound field for the verts. In a coupe you may not sound that hot as it is figured for a smaller interior with out the hatch area. You may want to get a coupe AE (which has two buttons) from a T2 or GXL.

Probably the radio has not been wired to bypass the stock amps. If the aftermarket radio has more than 15 watts it will overheat and distort when warm if the stock mazda amps have not been bypassed.

The other reasons for overheating is bad speakers or a mis-wiring issue.

There is nothing special about wiring a 'vert over any other car, in fact perhaps a little easier than the coupe as there is no front amp (just a sub amp and head rest speaker amp if applicable).

If you retained the head rest and sub amps you would need to build a RCA to DIN adapter, or modify the stock plugs but that would be all.

The AE system would only be required if you wanted to keep the stock head unit and add an CD player or you wanted that pre-set eq/sound field.
