Got a '88 FC today, what plans should i make?
i picked up my 2nd RX-7. I mainly bought it because the body was in immaculate condition, as was the interior. But as with all cars you got to fix it sometimes, the rear rotor has blown apex seals, i still managed to drive it 25KM home, it was torture for the engine i think. And the shifter seal is broken. O yes it was $980 canadian. O ya my other one is a GSL-SE, which is going to be a motor donor. 666Cody666 who lives like 2 mins from me suggests that i swap my healthy GSL-SE motor in to the FC.
Will this be easy, and can i use the s4 ignition system with the SE motor?
Since the engine will be out, what should i replace? the apex seals in my GSL-SE? which has 221000kms, or can the GSL-SE motor last another 100,000+ KMS on the same 3mm seals?
Lastly i want to get close to 200HP out of it, any suggestions? i was thinking no cats, a full RB exhuast minus catback, undesided catback, and undesided catback set up, 1 or 2 catbacks?, K&N cone intake, and a performence chip for the ECU off ebay, DO they actually work?
thanks
i will post pics tommorow when the sun rises.

This forum's FAQ.
You need to get some kind of rebuild or replace the engine. I wouldn't drive it til then or you could cause more damage.
Most performance chips don't work. Single or dual mufflers aren't very different in terms of power, though there are arguments for each. I think the upgrades you listed should get you up to ~175HP (150wHP), but that's a rough guess. A VDI from the S5 will help a little too (search "VDI"). A cold air intake should be good for another 5-6HP (search "cai"). An aluminum hood and convertable wheels should save you about 50lbs., which will help as much as 3HP would. Royal Purple motor oil should add ~3HP. There's not much else you can do to increase power short of getting a street port and/or SAFC or stand-alone ECU.

If it's got 221 000 km's on it you should rebuild it, as it probably won't last that much longer. I'd just rebuild the stock motor, or get a rebuilt, you'll probably have fewer headaches in the end, as I don't know how compatible the FB 13B is with the FC one, it might not work due to differences in the housings and so on. RX-7 Specialties in Calgary has a full engine exchange program with reasonable prices, they'll send you a fresh motor and then you send them your old one.
For 200hp at the flywheel you can do it on stock ports, but it'll be tough, might as well street port the motor while it's being rebuilt, add the S5 (89-91) intake, a cold air intake, free flowing exhaust and some engine management (standalone or piggy back), and a light weight flywheel. With that you should be able to hit 200 at the motor no problem. Those eBay "chips" aren't chips, it's a resistor in a box and won't gain you any power, it's a total rip off. I've got the full RB exhaust on my car and I really like it. It's not too loud, but it makes a nice noise when it's revved. It's a very high quality piece, and will outlast the car.
Since you're in Coquitlam you'll need to pass Aircare, so don't go doing anything that can't be undone when it's time to go test it.

Former Moderator. RIP Icemark.
the GSL-SE 13B won't mount into the FC
and has 10 HP less to start out with, than even N/A S4 motor
... I don't know why you are even considering this

or if you guys are sure that a GSL-SE 13B wont fit in my FC, there is a Turbo engine with 5 speed tranny near by for $750

i looked in to how much it would actually cost for a TII swap, its too much for my budget, i'd rather repair the current engine, i probably will need apex seals and rear housings, cuz i think its going to be damaged from running with blown seals.
OR is it possible for me to use my GSL-SE rotors in my S4 engine?
