Goofy Idle Problem
Goofy Idle Problem
Problem: Car has serious idle issues now.
Specs: I have a stock 91 convertible, 118k. No previous issues before I took took on my current project/problem. New O2 sensor, almost new plugs and wires, new drop in K&N filter.
History: I pulled my four fuel injectors and sent them to RC Engineering for cleaning. After putting it all back together (all new intake manifold gaskets), the cruise control and throttle cables seem to have slack in them. I tightened them up (probably incorrectly). When I started the car, the motor raced to 5,000 rpm, after a few seconds, it dropped to 3,000 and stayed there.
I checked the forum, saw that the cruise control cable could cause idle issues. I then loosened the cruise control cable. When I started the car again, the car would not idle at all. I then ajusted the cruise control cable (tightened up somewhat) and have the car idling at about 2100 rpms only after the car warms up. When cold, it just stalls out! Poor gas mileage has been an issue prior to this so a 2100 rpm idle just won't do.
What can I do to make my baby right?
