Good shock and tire upgardes?

I am getting closer and closer to getting rid of my mustang and getting my 7 down here to me. the tires are bad and i messed a shock up when i was doing my N/A swap. so i need a replace it. and when you replace one you should replace two and since i am replacing 2 i might as well replace all 4. and i believe in putting better parts on. so i am looking for a good value adjustable option. i want to put TIENs there but it is out of my budget now. my car has 14inch rims. i would like to know what sizes people have gone to for better handling with a budget.the rim are nice. i think they are Borrets? i think they came with the car.

Need more specifics. Do you mean adjustible ride height, damping or both?

If you're talking spring and shock combo, I have experience with KYB AGX with racing beat springs, worked very well on my old NA. 4 adjustible damping front and 8 rear. You can get the whole deal new for around 600-700.

If you're talking coilovers, most will tell you Stance is the only good entry-level coilover, which is around 1200.

Wheels, also need more detail. Are you 4 or 5 lug?

In my opinion you should get what you want. If you can't due to money, just get by, save, and then get what you want. There's no point in buying a $1000 suspension when you're still going to want the $1500 setup...you could spend $200 for Monroe shocks that'll be an improvement on the ageless things currently on your car...and have a better start for your Tien fund.

As far as wheels...the best budget/performance combo is 16" wheels and Kuhmo Ecsta AST's. You can get bajiggadalillions of 16" from nearly as many cars that look good. I run 16X8 Lincoln LSC Speedlines. I'm currently trying a Capitol tire with them because it was $70 cheaper for the set, I'll report my findings with them in a year or so. I've had EXCELLENT luck with the AST's in many different sizes.

This has some pics of the speedlines (someone else's...my pics no longer work, mine have black centers). You can get a set of these for under $100. You can get a set of the -0- offset Crown Vic wheels (same but with a deep lip) for under $200.

If you have 14 inch rims on a fc, then you more than likely have 4 lugs. Your first upgrade should be to a 5 lug setup with bigger brakes. Also, 5 lug will give you way more options when it comes to wheels. I'm running tokico HP's with RB springs along with new rubber (don't ever get polyurethane unless you like a really rough ride) bushings. I run 16" rims with toyo proxes4 225/50's as well and the car handles great. I'm into the whole setup $1400.

My 1989 base came with 14" steelies...just saying.

I wouldn't up to the 5 lug hubs unless you just really want to. You can put the 4-pots on the 4-lug cars with a couple spacers and some drilling. That's if you really want the bigger brakes. Unless you're spending a lot of time on the track, the 1-pot base brakes are still excellent, and you can still get plenty of nice wheels to fit them.

To me, the ONLY reason to up to the 5-lug setups is to get LSD.

He has rims, he thinks they are borrets.

OP, Tokiko or KYB adjustable shocks can be purchased on ebay for around $400 or so. For tires you can stick with stock tires, but go with something super sticky like Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Specs. Of course those are summer only tires.

I'd just weld the diff and do a 5 lug instead of swapping in an lsd with 5 lug.

i have a full Jdm TII driveline swap. LSD with 4 lug. i was looking for a better size tire size for the 14s the 185/70 are a little narrow. and little choice of tires. i want to run traklites when i get the money. unless there is a lighter rim for less or close. i want to do the 5 lug and 4 pot brake conversion. i have a friend who has a donor car. GTu however both cars are 1000 miles away in wisconsin. i am in FL. on a naval base. i want to keep the unsprung weight low. i only want to run 17s because i have to clear the brakes. low weight is more important then how it looks

15" wheels will clear the TII brakes. Hell I think the phone dials will clear the 4-pots.

All irrelevant, though...what are the wheel dimensions you're running now?

not tire size...what the WHEEL size? If it's a 4-lug SE, are you running the phone dial wheels?

Then for you there is no reason. You can put an LSD on a 4-lug car.

The real reason to go 5-lug is the improved brakes.

Yes, its an option. But, imo, one that should only be taken when all the 5 lug scars magically turn into 4 lugs.
