Good piggyback ECU upgrade...
i'm going to go a bigger turbo, and didn't want the stock ECU. What's a good piggyback replacement? I'm not talking about haltech here by the way, just something that's better than stock until i can afford a haltech some day.
thanks

Good Piggyback? Isn't that an oxymoron?!?!
Just joking, without serious engine mods, piggybacks generally work just fine. I don't know much about them though, since I never plan on using one. Sorry I can't help you, just had to post that.

A S-AFC is 290-350, thats a lot of bucks to spend on something that will be useless to you when you get a stand-alone.
Dale Clark is king of the Piggy-backs, but alas he is missing in action. You could always ask our other knowledgeable moderator; mazdamanda? Perhaps she will share her tuning experience with us?

I would say that your cheapest beat would ba a SAFC, there is always the E-Manage but that can get to be expensive when you start to add up all the extra add on features. Making it not that much removed from the price of a used standalone. I know people have run larger turbos on SAFC, I am kind of wary of it though. To me the SAFC is okay for the stock turbo at higher boost. Dale was also running an AIC to help get extra fuel into the engine.

the e-manage is pretty cool, becuase it can be as simple as a 1st AFC and as complex as full 32x32 fuel maps and 16x16 ignition maps! Very cool toy, but it will cost nearly $500 to outfit the whole thing.

Microtech is a stane alone ems. Just like haltech, motec, link, wolf, etc. I can't remember the cost, but I think it's around $25000 USD. Haltech E6K is about $1200 USD.
Check out www.mvamotorsports.com Marco Acosta works there and probably has as much experience (or more) with Microtech than anyone in the world.
S-AFC is a good piggyback choice because it will do the job for what you want, costs $300 (about) and even if you do upgrade to a stand alone in the future I'm sure you can sell it for $175-$200.
