Here's what I am proposing:

Option 1: Streetported, nicely painted, RB catback, better sound system, some NA power stuff, and other small little things.

Option 2: Spray-painted car (its halfway stripped now), cheap-o exhaust, and completely stock/slightly used turbo engine.

By the way, here is what I have now:
RB header, RB presilencer, Corksport cat-back, halfway stripped car and stock engine.

Which should I do? Both cost about the same amount.

Turbo man, i was going to do the same thing, and turbo is the way to go. I was thinking about streetporting and rebuilding my n/a, but then i decided to go turbo, and its awsome.

ahh tough call =( I guess depends on goal for your car... if you would be happy with the powerlevels that each would be possible of (within reasonable cost ^_^) I voted for turbo though (we can never have enough power!)

i'd say the good n/a...just wait till atkins finishes the fuel injected supercharger for the n/a and get that at least until then you'll still have a quick n/a that looks better than the mediocre tII would be

Halfway stripped, sounds like thats not a big deal since the car your driving now is the same

Completely stock engine... perfect

Turbo lag is way better! You get those few moments where you are anticipating the rush of the turbo spooling, it makes you horny.

Contrary to popular belief, a built NA is faster than a stock TII. Case in point: two forum members have street ported, full exhaust base model FC's which run mid to low 14's. Stock TII runs mid 15's.

With the NA option, you would have a faster, more reliable, and just nicer car.

Now, if you had the extra money to do all the mods to a TII correctly, then that path would be better.

I chose to build up my NA because I make $18k a year!

My friend's NA Sport with a STOCK PORT engine and Wolf EMS will beat a stock or slightly modified TII.

LOL, I understand the money issue. No matter how much money one makes, there is still the question of how much money one is willing to spend on a car. I'm not quite as strapped for cash as some of the other forum members, but you may have noticed that the 88 TII is no longer in my signature. I simply didn't like it as much as the other cars. The current owner is quite happy with it, but I would also like to point out that she recently bought an NA FC to race, so that should tell you something.

The important thing is to consider what YOU like, not what everybody else likes. For example, if all you care about are cool turbo noises, or if you are the type of person who never seems to have enough power or a good enough 1/4 mile time, then the turbo engine is the way to go. If you really don't care much either way, you already have some good NA exhaust components, and the street port NA is going to be MUCH easier than the TII swap, so I would recommend that route simply because of the workload issue. About the only NA power stuff you would want to add would be a high-flow air filter, and an S-AFC or a good used EMS (Haltech E6K with a 1 BAR MAP sensor, Wolf3DV3.x, etc.). A light flywheel would also be nice if you like that kind of thing. You may or may not need larger injectors, but this can be determined later once the engine is running. There really isn't much to add to an NA engine unless you are racing it on the speedway, which I assume you are not going to do if you are considering a nice paint job and stereo system.

If I remember right, in an issue of hot rod mag, they did a comparo: Turbo vs. Centrifugal vs. Roots, all with no intercooler and at the same psi. Turbo had the best torque curve, and made only slightly less peak hp than the other 2, but made way more peak torque.

I'll go check that later and make sure its right.

PS. I love the Microsoft Powertoys Picture resizer, I resized all those pictures from about 1200x1500 to 1000x1300 and it took the pics from 2.5 megs each down to 250k each.
