Question good, less expensive, aftermarket engine control unit?

i keep hearing about these aftermarket computers to control engine functions. SAFC and what have you...

im currently running stock everything, but soon i will be rebuilding another s4 engine with street port, some s5 internals, and mazda race bearings.

im going to attempt to get 250hp from an N/A(flywheel).

also need some suggestions for fuel delivery.

this is what ive got on a wish list so far:

race clearanced s5 rotors

race bearings through out

street port on intake and exhaust

racing rotary rebuld kit from RB

RB header, cat replacement, and custome cat-back

lightend steel flywheel from RB

under drive pully

no emissions crap.

now i just need some input on what kind of computer and fuel injectors im going to need for approx. 225-230 RWHP.

p.s. im a tech student on a budget so i cant afford any outlandish prices, plus this motor is for a GRADE.

microTech had a thing going on for a while that if you bought an ECU from them and got you 13B N/A to run 13s they would reEmburse you for the cost

interesting, n-e-1 think they could post some links to some of these ecu companies?

i wonder if microtech is still doing that cause im sure i could get into the high 13s. actually there isnt a quarter mile track within range of me so i wonder if they would accept high 8s in an 8th?

You'll be very lucky to reach 250fwhp with a streetport, the stock intake manifold and a streetable (i.e. cop-friendly) exhaust. That's bridgeport territory.
i just need some input on what kind of computer and fuel injectors im going to need for approx. 225-230 RWHP.
The cheapest fully-featured EMS would be from MicroTech. Just remember that they're the cheapest for a reason and you won't be disappointed.

250fwhp will need a TII fuel pump, and you're right on the safe limit of the stock NA injectors. You could stick with them, but if you wanted to upgrade them, TII secondaries would be all you need. Assuming you get there of course...

eh, megasquirt. IF you can solder that is. DIY fuel computer(no spark, but theyre working on it... there are other things you can do for that)

I think that is what you are looking for,

ok got off my lazy ***, a'pexi s-afc on stock comuter, will that do what i need? i saw that its only like 400 bones and that its a piggy back.

good 2 c u NZ! i didnt wanna go with a bridge port or anything 2 crazy. it is going to be my transportation for a couple of years and id like to keep a decent idle. forgot to add that im also polishing and boaring the intake manifold.(internaly of course)

its a project i kinda gotta do for engine performance class. gotta build a motor that will acheeve 9 second passes on an eighth mile track, but the catch is that it has to be streetable. as in, if it came down to it, you could drive it every day... comfertably.

plus my professor bet me that i couldnt get my "little rice rocket" into the 9's in an 8th mile. i told him, "screw you AND your camaro! ill bet you my passing grade that i can get it into the 9's and whip your camaro's ***!" (runs a 9.443 in an 8th)

the project doesnt start till next spring, just trying to get a head start.

I really think the megasquirt is the way for you to go...

for less than 200 you can have a fuel computer that has a lot of good functions on it.

Give it up...unless you're willing to spend $3,000+ or have extraordinary resources to do all the work for free?

Sounds like you need a turbo...

yeah you won't beat any camaro in a drag race with any type of mods with a NA. Just face it. You need to get a turbo if you want to get 250 rwhp. You can get 250 rwhp with a stock t2 motor with a couple of bolt ons.

i know i know...

yeah, seems as if i do need a turbo. but if there is a way around it, i will find it!

REted, im not giving up that easy! i know it will cost about 3500 in all but it would cost that much for a t2 tranny, engine, and rebuild. plus ive got a friend that has an 84 with a ported 13b with all the internal goodies pushing 240 at the rear wheels. this guy spanks Cobras, and its his dayly driver.

NZ, good to see ya, yeah i would go turbo but there are reliability issues. like i said, its for a grade. that means that it must work, cause every time that we must bring it back in and tear it down the instructor will doc us a full letter grade.

you'll probably need a TII tranny and rearend anyways depending on how much torque you are putting down.

If you are going JUST for times, go with the 1st gen. Much lighter. If you want to stick with the 2nd gen, 86 base model

Forced Air Induction of time kind will probably be needed. Someone had a vert that he estimated at 250 at the flywheel i think, one an NA engine. He had some kind of custom intake and other stuff. I'll look for his post and see if i can find it.
