good Idea for the vert..........let me know what you guys think

Ok, I like the look of the vert (I have an 89) But I hate that quarter window just behind the windshield. It makes the car look boxy and old imop. What if I removed this window, and cut out the frame for it. Then, I get a pair of windows from a hardtop rex and install them in the old windows place. When the top is down, it would look ALOT sleeker - sort of like this (pardon the shitty editing job, it's late)

well, you can get the idea of what I'm talkin about. Would this not look alot better? I think I am going to try to make it happen. It shouldn't be hard at all. I just remove the old ****, then go to a yard and get the windows and tracks from a hardtop, and install - voila custom look. (If anybody has done this before, let me know - if not this will be known as the Ciatti window conversion!

by the way, this car looks bad ***. But, why in the name of GOD is this GP sports body kit so damn much money??????? It is not that radical of a design, I have seen carbon fiber kits for the entire front end of an FD and they are way cheaper than this thing. Or am I mistaken on the price??

Sounds like a killer idea. I wonder why the verts were designed with that little window anyway? Windshield support, maybe?

how does a hatchback door fit? Should the window line be the same? Id like to find out. I feel confined with that little window and the top down.

Without those windows, you've got mega-powerful wind blowing directly in your face wherever you go.

I'll take the wind in the face. I'm goin for looks, and that window Looks like ****. why do you think a coupe window will not fit?? it is the same door. The only part that I think would be tricky is that when the window is rolled up, there may be a space by the top of the door where the window is short due to the design of the top of the door on the coupe. May have to think of something for that...........................

or you may have to do some cutting of a piece of glass. I bet I could have some made for not TOO much.

The window is not the same. Remmember; the coupe has a frame for the top of the door, while the 'vert does not.

Also the shape of the window is quite different when you actually look at the two next to eachother.

If you hate those windows that much, prepare for a whole lot of expensive custom work.

isn't the vert angle and shape different where the windshield meets the side windows?

I am guessing it was put there for structural purposes- doesn't really bother me all that much- certainly not enough to warrant risking structural support.

ok noone has said it but those small windows support your front winshield man if you take em out your going to be putting alot of stress on that window at high speeds 40+ which after a while the window will crack

Yep, as covered above... the bar is for structural support... removing it adds all kinds of structural problems to the car.

FYI: Even when many companies were doing convertible conversions for the SA/FB many added that same bar because of the same exact reasons.

like if anything you could figure out to leave that there and find another way of covering that to where you like it that would work but completely removing will cause problems...

Also the bottom of the windows are different so you would have to get coupe window motors. And I dont see a problem with the little piece of glass, I like it. I think cars without it look cheap

I'm sure that there is a way that I can fab this. I'm gonna do some research on this, and if I can pull it off without hurting structural integrity, I will be a god. LOL

ok - i just took a good look at the setup on my vert. That window and rail don't really seem to add any structural rigidity to the windshield at all. (it seems) I even opened the doors and got up and pushed on the top of the windshield HARD and it didn't budge! I think I am gonna proceed and post my results as I go.

I agree, it will probably be windier, but a lot of convertibles have no quarter window, and they get by just fine, so I think I'm gonna try it.

Conformist.

Do it right and you'll still look like lots of other convetibles, so if you're going for origionality, it's a loss. You're also going to have to switch doors, and get a piece of glass cut. this is $$$, don't lose yourself before you can catch yourself.
