Lightbulb Good Fire Extinguisher for Our Cars??

Well, since there are lots of stories of rotary engined cars catching fire, so I think I'm gonna get a fire extinguisher for my FC just in case coz extinguisher fire when it just started would save my car easily. I'm not about to watch my car burn down while waiting for a fire truck

So, what size and what kind of fire extinguishers should I look for? I looked on Ebay and it seems like 5# is a good choice. Also, would these actually work and work well?:

real small ones:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2464557846

APC 10" chrome ones:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2464511817

Chrome OBX extinguisher:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2465639243

It would be whole lot easier to have these small things inside the car than to have ugly, big red fire extinguisher

Thanks in advance

The ones from Autozone are ok. Just be sure it's got a real dial-guage on it so you know if it's still good. The cheaper ones have that pop-up indicator which I found lies 1/2 the time. I had one of those cheap ones in my car and the pressure leaked out, but the pop-up indicator still showed good.

Really, anything is good. Vaughnc has got some solid advice there. If you want to get really fancy, Halon is the way to go. But I would go to home depot or someplace and get medium sized quality unit.

I got a decent sized one that came with a mount for my roll bar at a local race shop for $50. its recharable too. also you don't want it to small that when you need to use it you will run out before the fires out.

Im with MtnRacer buy a medium sized one from home depot. Im a volunteer fire fighter and I know that a small one wont do crap if your car gets up in smoke.
Go get one that will actually have a bit of spray in it.

Yo,

Heh, yeah, I knew it was coming.

But seriously, $115 is chump change considering the time and money invested in your car.

People spend hundreds, if not thousands, on performance mods...but will put in a cheapy $15 ABC powder extinguisher in their car.

It's just common sense, spend the cash for the good stuff. What's awesome about Halon is you can fire it through your radiator and not have to pop the hood. That's the worst thing to do for an engine fire, pop the hood and give the fire much needed Oxygen.

I guess as soon as I get some money buy selling my stock parts, I'll be buying one of those bad boys! Yeah. $115 is nothing really compared to how much I put into the car and how much I bought the car for. Thanks a lot for your help

Also, thanks for your help, everyone who posted!

Whatever you do, don't be a ricer and mount it on your passenger side A-pillar, or it will cave in your hear in an accident.

Not to mention bake in the sun and become over-charged quicker than Rarest's platinum card.

I have a small & medium sized polished H3R Halon. Great stuff, but make sure you make put every spray where it counts because those small bottles only give you a few hot seconds of usage

Yeh, those small bottles have almost nothing in them really. They dont last long at ALL. A few seconds is right!

But sometimes, a few seconds is all you need (as pointed out in that fiero post)

Plan accordingly!
