Good deal on coilovers
Good deal on coilovers
I was wondering if anybody thinkgs that this is a good deal. A set of used TEIN sport spec Type HR coilovers with about 1000 miles on them. They are going for $400. Good deal, yes or no? It seems like a good deal but I just want to know what other people think.
Thanks

Take a look at them before buying. Look for the usual oil leaking. Check out the piston shafts as well for scratches or fade in the coating, because even if there is no signs of oil leaking out the piston shafts could be shot. The HR is a fairly old model and more than likely it has never been overhauled, which means most likely it will need one in the near future, at which time you're probably looking at a minimum of about $300 and a maximum of maybe $5-600. So in the end you MIGHT end up paying approximately $1000 for the dampers and overhaul put together.
Check the dampers out first before buying. IF in the case they are not in great condition may as well shell out the money and go for a new set of whatever TEIN you might want.

Are they from Japan or USA?
If they are from Japan, check with Tein USA to see if they will service them.
Last time I checked, Tein USA refuses to touch anything that bypasses their USA distribution channels (i.e. sold in the USA through authorized Tein dealers).
If your shocks are dead, you're fucked.
