Good Deal?
I am considering buying a new rx7 but don't know if this car is a good deal. here is the info from the ad.
I'm selling my 1987 Mazda RX-7 TurboII. I've owned the car for about 9 years. It was a fantastic car, but unfortunately developed a coolant leak which the local mechanic I took it to couldn't fix. The car has been sitting in my garage since then, just under two years. Currently it's not running. Before the leak, the motor was running strong. It had new motor in 1990 from Mazda under warranty, so the engine currently has 120000 km on it.
The body is in great shape with the exception of the driver side mirror housing which was vandalized and needs to be reattached properly/fixed (the power mirror component still works).
The car is in need of someone who will spend the time to fix it up. I was optimistic that the leak could be repaired, but just never go around to doing it myself and the mechanic I initially consulted didn't know much about rotary engines... so here I am.
I don't know tell me what you think

^ Ya if the "coolant leak" is inside the engine, you need a $3000 rebuild. Find out where the leak is first. www.aaroncake.net has info for checking for blown engine coolant seals and other problems. I wouldn't get any car if you can't inspect it while it's running. For general info look up a buyer's guide via google or the 2nd gen forum FAQ; or paying a mechanic to inspect it could save you from wasting a whole lot more money on a bad purchase. For typical prices go to www.kbb.com. OTOH if you only want a shell and don't mind rebuilding, potential clutch or tranny problems and a bunch of other potential problems, just look over the paint and interior and pay only what they're worth. If it's super clean $1000-$1500 might be reasonable; or less if it's so-so.

That sounds like the best idea if its a blown coolant seal b/c thats the only coolant leak that cant be fixed w/o ripping the block apart... But, it better be a very clean rolling chasis (inside and out) for $1500 imho...

Have RX-7, will restore

moreover, how is the body? if coolant has been sitting inside of rotor housings withthe rotors...and if there's any flaking..the housings are probably junk. so at that point your heapest option is to swap in a known good engine. if the body is nice, i'd offer the seller a tad less and spring for it. just be mindful of the cost of the restoration and factor that into the overall price of the car.
