Is this a good buy..

I'm looking at these 2 1991 rx-7's the guy is asking 2500 for both.
They are drop tops 1 runs one does not the one that runs has about 140kish miles on it but the body needs some work like hood, driver side door fenders ect dented / cracked. . the insides need work like carpet and could use work on the seats. The one that doesn't run has a great body. He used to race the one the runs. but i drove it and it still has kick and sounds ok...He was asking 3k but he is down to 2500 i might be able to get cheaper his wife is in hosp and he needs money for that... Any input of suggestions would be much help..
Thanks

Do you know his wife is in the hospital, or just that he "says" his wife is in the hospital? He could say anything to play on your sympathies from raking him over the coals and talking him down further.

People who need money shouldn't have a couple RX7 convertibles just sitting around.

Offer $2,000 cash. Money talks.

if the titles are clean, 2500 does not sound bad at all

..

Thanks for all the feedback.. But befor i buy is there anything i should look for on the car that might be a problem for that year? I am pretty good with cars but never owned a rotary befor always wanted to i have been reading alot about them and have a understanding about how they work, but unlike normal engines do not really know what they should run like sound idle ect.
Like he said in 1st gear you got to keep the RPM's up more so then a 4cyl or v6 or even v8. Any input would be great because if i buy them it will be in next 1-2 days.. thanks again.

what do you mean you have to keep the RPMS up?? like to engage the clutch?, anyways, they're really arent any year specific probs other than regular stuff you will find on an RX7.

91verts are kinda rare these days, so i say go for it, and for 2500! good deal man, and dont try to talk him down to 2000, wife dying or not, 2500 is a straight deal

sorry buddy, SEARCHING will be the key to finding probs, but i mean as long as initially when you get the car do a major tune up

Change all fluids, gearoil, diff, coolent, engine,

New sparkplugs, wires, airfilter, belts

check for leaks, coolent, oil, gas, exhaust

do a compression test to see how much life is left in the motor

Theres really no way to guage these cars, some last 200,000 miles some last 50,000 miles, these cars handle racing really well, but it all comes down to the user, how much the car was taken care of, if preventitive maintence was kept up, big problems taken care of promptly

as far as the first gear thing goes, i dont ever really stay in first gear, EVER, i usually take first to like 3K or 3.5K and change to second, so, im still misunderstanding, like will the car die? what RPM do you have to be at to engage the clutch? Idles on RX7's should be 750-850 RPMS when they run perfect, and anywhere from 700-1000 if they run good and can be brought back in to spec usually just requiring a TPS adjustment, which is easy.

Dont expect this car to be a DD until you find out any quirks or problems, by the way you desribed them i doubt you will be makeing them DD's anyways.

RX7's make excellent project cars, and being a 91 vert owner my self, i thought i would never own a convertable, i freaking love mine though
