IF you actually read them you would have had your answer: https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-specific-1986-1992-17/specifications-what-did-2nd-generation-rx-7-come-w-options-standard-features-249616/

What the fc's standard features were, you'll see the GTU and GXL (not GLX) differences

What are you talking about? GTU and GXL (s4 atleast) have the same 4.1 rear end unless its an auto (which was 3.9) and same transmissions. The gtu does weigh less than the gxl but it would probably still be a drivers race. Maybe your thinking about the GTUs?

Thanks andrew... I recently crashed my GTU but the driveline is ok (had a new pineapple under the hood) and recently a 1990 GXL came up for sale. The guy is selling it for 1500 while repairing my GTU would cost 2500ish. What would you do fix or swap?

An s4 GTU has significant differences in features and weight from an s5 GTU and s5 GXL.

Theres the ratio's for the s4's in 88, i don't see any special options like for the GTUs in 89, prove me wrong skir.

I have an 88 GTU. It has to be the best NA car. Its a drivers car. No p seats,pw,pl. Has the beatter supporting seats. Areo package and the same suspension as a T2.

No no, the sport models without sunroof are the best na's Fastest/lightest na's (4 lugs are lighter but once the swap is done your back up to sport weight), and back in the day they tested them and they were only 1/2 second slower than the TII in 0-60. I used to have a 88 GTU too i really liked that car, if the sport came with a lsd then it'd win hands down.

lol I have to have my sunroof. I love that thing. Plus when I have the ac and ps removed when i get my new motor I want to beable to cool down. 3 open spaces>2 open spaces which= my *** being cooler in 100 degree weather. lol. Plus the LSD is a real nice addition.

Um, no... you are wrong.

The 88 GTU uses the same gearing and tranny as the 88 GXL, and the 89-90 GTU uses the same gearing and tranny as the 89-90 GXL.

Despite all that however, the 89-90 GTU is the base strippy model and not really worthy of the GTU name.

The 89-90 GTUs model (note the small "s") is really the successor to the 88 GTU and 86-87 Sport.

As an intresting footnote, I was speaking with one of the Japanese engineers at this last 7 stock and he told me the 89-90 GTUs model was orignially supposed to have a non turbo 20B in it, but Mazda cheaped out (much like the did on the entire S5 run) and because of gas mileage and stuck the regular 13B in it and put the 4.3 rear end to try and make up for that. He said that was the low point in his working on the RX-7.
