Wink glowing turbo and high idle

I did search, and it looks like the timing being off caused the red glowing turbo/downpipe, though I didn't touch the timing while changing my clutch. As soon as I had it altogether I started my 88' turbo II up and later I go to check for leaks to find a glowing turbo. Maybe it's a clogged cat because my exhaust did get rained on but not in the pipes? Also the idle wouldn't freaking go down like it normally would, the car was idling at like 3,000 rpms for ever and I couldn't get it to go down, it did idle at around 2000 rpms for a while until the engine warmed more then it went to like 3000rpms. Also there seemed to be alot of air entering the intake, I could feel the vacuum it pulled thru, and the turbo do boost the one time I revved the engine. I need some help, thanks alot guys/gals.

You could feeel the vacuum from where, the TID? this would mean that the throttle plates are not closing, and that there is a kink in the cooling line to the TB, or the thermowax is stuck or some ****.
Clogged cats could result in a glowing turbo, I think the best test for that is to see how quickly you boost when driving.

So make sure the throttle plates are fully closed, and make sure that the BAC valve is not stuck open, or the air selenoid thats connected to the bac valve.

i felt vacuum from the scoop in front of the air box, the normal intake. I tried many times to turn the throttle cable holder thingy the opposite way but it wouldn't go down, the cats weren't clogged before I changed the clutch. But maybe because the cat got knocked around while installing/uninstalling the exhaust that the cat collapsed, but i didn't take off the downpipe, the car seemed to boost quickly in neutral but haven't yet to do a road test, boost in neutral seemed the same before, is it going to break anything getting that freaking hot? So the coolant is supposed to go close to the thermowax located at the throttle body, and as the temperature of the coolant increases the wax melts until the idle drops off right? well my normal high idle/cold engine idle is like 1500 rpms not 3000 rpms. would advanced ignition timing cause high idle? BAC valve is also only supposed to adjust a few rpms too right? thanks, ill check some stuff out tomorow.

Sounds like a vacuum leak. Running lean will cause the exhaust temps to increase. If the vac leak isn't associated to the super hot exhaust at idle, then check the exhaust system for obstruction(s). And if the turbo is glowing from just having the car sit at an idle, I don't think it is a very smart idea to try to drive it like that other guy suggested.

i heard it could be a vacuum leak. I will recheck, I am going to remove the intercooler again to recheck everything, then i'll test drive it. I haven't had a chance to mess with it today, and I have to work tomorow so hopefully friday i can get it going on. thnx
