Glow Gauges
Hey,
Anyone put in glow gauges in their S4. I need help with the wiring. I need to run the power and on off switch to the same relay switch that the car comes with. Don't wana flip another off/on switch when I need the glow gauges on. Need them to come on when the park lights come on and also with headlights.
Basically I need to run the wiring to the headlight switch.
I am totally new to this and need as much help as I can get so that I will not end up getting a new gauge cluster and headlight switch.
Just 4 wires. 2 for power and two for the on/off.
Anyone out there can help me out????
- Neal......

Hey Neal, i just set up my indiglo gauges, but it came with a simple positive and negative.. I made a ground on the firewall to an exsisting bolt, and stole power from the stereo acc wire so when i put the key in the ignition they come on automatically on the acc position.. hope this helps

Yeah thats how a lot of people do it........
When I installed my boost gauge, I figured out what wire ran to the dash dimmer switch, and spliced the boost gauge wire into that (I tested it by poking the gauge wire into the terminal on the connector). It comes on with the headlights, and I can use the dimmer to control the brightness of the gauge. I wish I could tell you use such and such wire, but really all I did was literally trace the wire from the switch I needed. Wish I could be more help, but I use pretty caveman tactics when it comes to wiring.

Hey,
That helps. That was one of my options that I considered earlier, stealing power from the stereo so that it would come on as soon as I drop the key in ignition and turn.
I would much rather wire it into my headlight switch though as I would like them to come on with my parking lights and then when my headlights are on.
I just would like to know which wires are going where, as I have not taken apart my gauge cluster yet, just would like to get prepared before I dive in.
Thank You for the helpful info though

If you know how to read wiring diagrams, you could check the FSM. I tried that first, and it just made me feel dumber, so I went back to my caveman ways and traced the wire to the dimmer switch.
You just have to remove enough to get behind that switch and be able to see where it runs down to. On mine, it bundles with a billion other wires, down to a connector that sends a billion wires off to somewhere else (I didn't know where, didn't care where...caveman tactics remember?). I just remembered what color the wires (it was green w/ a red line I think) on my dimmer switch were, and poked the gauge wire into the slot it fit into the connector to test it. When I saw light that dimmed and brightened...viola! If all else fails, give it a shot.
