Glass vs. Plastic Headlamps
Glass vs. Plastic Headlamps
I need to replace my headlamps on my 1991 RX7 and was told not to use glass headlamps because they will wear out the headlamp cover motors. Does anyone have any information about this? The glass headlamps offer greater light output so I'd rather switch to them, but don't want to wear out my headlamp motors. Thanks. John.
Only the convertibles came stock with plastic headlamps. All other models came with Glass headlamps.
The headlight motor, underhood headlight wires, and headlight assemblies are the same for the coupe and convertibles.
So there is no issue using glass or plastic headlights. The convertible model that came with plastic, simply were that way for a few more onces of weight savings to avoid gas guzzler taxes.

My 1991 coupe was pretty damn original (only item I could find changed from stock was the oil filter) with 61K miles and it had two stock plastic headlights.
Also where can I find plastic replacements.. the glass ones are about 2#'s heavier!
