Question getting a tuneup?

i'm going to ohio in a week and a half from pennsylvania and i want my 88 gxl in good running order before then. i will be getting an oil change and i want a tune up but i'm not car savvy enough to do it myself. can i just take it anywhere for a tuneup or do i need to take it to the local mazda dealer? i would appreciate any suggestions. also if there is anything else i should get checked or tweeked to keep it running good. thanks

Considering a tuneup really means a new set of plugs I think you can probably handle that .

Just make sure the car is running well, not overheating, no major oil leaks, etc.

There's really not much to do. Check the TPS maybe and check the timing. But, if the TPS is good, it's gonna stay set, and if the timing is set once, it really doesn't drift.

It's a rotary - it's nice and simple .

I consider a full tune-up changing all filters(oil, air, fuel), flushing the coolant, changing oil/plugs/wires/tranny fluid. Plus running a good fuel system cleaner. To me thats a tune-up
