getting started on the mods

I'm going to start adding some power to my 88 t2 soon. basicly I need to know how to get started.
My goal will be eventually 350+ rwhp over the next year. Whats the first few things I can do?

I need to be safe. Should I go ahead and upgrade my fuel system? Fuel pump? Wich one?

should I go ahed and get a FCD? RB, or does someone else make a better/cheaper one?

What about exhaust? what system will support the kind of power that I want that I can use now? Anythng? Would I be better off having one built using aftermarket components (i.e. mufflers, cats, down pipe, ect ).

Are there any "chips" that are worth a damn for my car?

I have built and worked on performance 1st gens for a few years now but this is my first experiance with Turbo. I Basically need all the info I can get about achieving my hp goal safely.

Thank you,

Mike

first you mod. it for reliability downpipe,high-flow cat.and intake, that should give you about 15h.p.and much better responce, then do the trottle body mod.even better response and nice fixed idling then use a needle valve and set for 8psi boost, now you have a nice reliable car that probably puts out 215-220h.p.at the flywheel.

With that kind of horsepower goal, you will need to spend quite a bit of cash. Upgraded turbos, fuel systems, and stand alone engine management will be neccesary to make that all happen. But first things first.

Get and intake, downpipe, hiflow cat, and catback first. These are probably the best bang for the buck. You can run up to 10psi of boost without an ecu upgrade (but you will need a fuel cut defenser). Also get an air/fuel meter. This is very important and will let you know if you have enough fuel for whatever boost you are running. I have the EFI dual meter that has air/fuel ratio as well as injector loads. I HIGHLY reccomend this unit (far better than the Autometer a/f guage i had before) and it costs about $130 bucks. Good luck as your car grows in horsepower...

Thanks,
Mike
