getting my fc soon (hopefully)

Hey everyone. Im in the process of buying a 91 na fc from my brothers friend. Color is red with A package (pretty sure) and 76k original miles. I test drove it yesterday and was about to buy it when he let me know he couldnt find the pink slip. Im just waiting on him as of now to find it and if he cant hes going to go to the dmv and pick up a new title. Body is perfect with the exception of a scrape on the rear left corner which has fucked up the sidemarker. Perfect interior and no known electrical problems. I'll be purchasing it for $3800 which in my opinion is a great deal. Car is quick and doesnt seem to have 3800k hesitation and is already equipped with SS brake lines and tokiko 5 way adjustable coilovers.

I have a few questions though if you guys could help me out.

1)the car was last tuned up at 50k when he purchased it. Should I get it tuned up?

2)I am planning to have a sound system installed which will knock girls clothes off. What will I need to do other than an FD alternator swap, regrounding and a hyper ground system?

I also plan on getting the racing beat dual catback (not true duals) and doing atommicas custom cold air box.

My goal for this car is a decent powered street car with good low end and just a weekend cruiser. I will be keeping the cats if anyones wondering.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks for reading and sorry for the long post.

hehe, good low end

other than that sounds like a good deal, id say go for it... the s5's also have better alternators than the s4's so you might be able to just stick with what you have... depends on how loud you wanna go

I don't know what you mean by tune up..(it's a vauge term to begin with and even vauger for a rotary) if nothing but oil changes has been done in 50K miles then I would do the following..

Relace all the fluids.. Coolant, oil, gear oil, tranny fluid, diff fluid.

Check all the belts and hoses.. I would probably replace them and the thermostat just for ***** and giggles.

replace spark plugs and check timing afterwards.

With my FC if I don't change the oil aroundr 2.5K miles or the plugs every 9K then I notice a HUGE difference.

That's about all I can think of. Sounds like a great FC :-)
Post some pics when you get it!

thanks for the advice. Yea when I said tune up I meant changing all the vital fluids and spark plugs and wires. I'm prety sure the brakes are in good condition and wont be needing to be changed for a while.

update:

I got my car last nite did all the paperwork and got it smogged this morning (passed easily). Just sat in her last nite for a long while and became comfortable with her. I named her Stasia by the way.

Well anyways the car came with an explod Sony deck and a prewired amp in the passenger rear bin. The speakers are just awful. Another thing the antenna works but when it fully extends it just falls on the car. It is not secured to the motor I guess. I have not taken out the rear hatch carpet but will do tonight if I have time to see whats wrong. I need to change the oil this weekend and im going to give her a nice shower tonite when i get off work.

Pix will be up as soon as I get her cleaned up and get ahold of a digicam.

The greatest feeling in the world.... owning your first car and that first car being a 7 is just a bonus.

forgot to add that after the smog test my dad gave me a complimentary full tank of gas. Thanks dad! The total was about $28 for 87 as the tank was getting close to empty.

Check compression, otherwise it sounds like it's in good shape because of the emissions test.

i didnt get a compression test done and dont plan on getting one unless i feel something is really wrong or the engine begins to struggle. The person who I bought it from, my friends brother used to work for Mazda and babied it. I have total faith that it is in great running condition.

Any other feedback/suggestions?

car has more problems than i had thought. The driverside outer door handle is comin loose. Feels like with some force I could pull the entire handle off. I did a search and what I have come up with is that I have to open up the door panel and take a look. Could the loose door handle be caused by broken/loose clips or screws?

Also I have not yet had a chance to check out the problem with the antenna mast not being attached to whatever it is supposed to be attached to.

Any suggestions on fixing either of these problems?

Oh and one more thing, is there a way to disable the power locks from locking itself when i turn the key in the ignition 2 clicks?

Thanks a million I know you guys can help me.

The outer door handle is held on by 2 10mm nuts, yes you will need to remove the inner door panel to check everything. Sorry, cant help you about the power locks, never even been in a FC with them..

thanks Rxmfn7

Approximately how long is the process of taking the door panel on/off? I need to set some time apart for this project and some other things I need to do for my car.

Anybody on the antenna or power lock problem?

The door panel is not that hard to get off...15 minutes tops. Just get all the screws out, then pop it off of the clips. And about the power antennae, its fairly easy to remove also. Take the carpeting away from the left rear where the antennae is and look around back there, and you should be able to see how it comes out. I replaced my power antennae awhile ago, and I cant remember exactly how it was attached, but I had it out in no time.

thanks again.

2 down and 1 to go... who wants to take a stab at the power lock problem. Its not a must do but very annoying and increases the chances of me locking my keys in the car
