Talking Getting a 88' RX-7!!! wOOt! wOOt!

YAY!!! OMG!

I saw it today when we arrived at the dealer and I just knew it was for me.(Route 611 Auto Outlet) I saw it on autotrader and since the one near me is overpriced meh....5k$ It has a warrenty but we suspect it went threw a rebuild. I still prefer this one, the internet said it was for 2495$ but I saw a sign...1775$ on the windshield...I sploged!

It is an 88' SE I believe(not sure), It's an auto but a swap will definetly be in order once I learn stick well(don't wanna fubar a new car). Unless a TII comes my way then I'll just buy that. Just under 100K on the clock, sunroof, stock audio, very decent interior(like one tear). The paint looks well taken care of for the most part(still shiny) couple bumps and scratches but thats to be exspected. Well I didn't test drive it yet( just wanted a look, getting late) but I did start the engine and from what I've read it did what it was supposed too. Jumped close to 3k for bit then came down to 1500K, It seemed to sound fine and the engine bay looked clean some rust but it look surface and superficial. Looks like a new alternator was put in too. When I saw 13B on the intake manifold my eyes liked popped outa my head. LOL The head lights were very fuctional, up and down, high and low. Well thats all I tried for now but it is a good chance I am going to buy this car. I mean WHY not??? I'm 19 and a wagon is just not my idea of sporty. I do like it though, don't get me wrong bc I saw a Roadmaster in the paper to that caught my eye. I am starting to like it's annoyingly loud exhaust. hehe

Well I will update with pics soon! Once I go back down and test drive it with cash in hand. hehe I'm so pumped for this car.

i suggest trying to get it for closer to $1200 due to the fact that it's an automatic and with 100k it probably has it's original 15 year old motor in it which i'm sure has seen better days.

Get a compression test done on it and then get the owner down on the price after the test due to lower than new #'s Guys he said he'll do a swap, and it's a decent price. Just try to get him lower...

Unless the motor has been rebuilt, figure another $2k in the cost of ownership. A motor that old will pop at any time, seriously. Not that it will definitely happen, but be prepared for it.

if you're thinkin about an auto to manual swap id forget it, when i got my 7 thats what i wanted to do but i was in way over my head, it can be done with a lot of work and time but in the end id say its not worth it. just gettin the auto brake pedal out is one helluva bitch, considering the auto brake assembly is welded to the firewall, then you have to find a clutch/brake assembly and see if it will fit then run the brake pedal and clutch cable and all that good stuff through, and in this process you will have to rip apart the steering column because it is bolted to the auto brake assembly, you will also need a new driveshaft because the driveshafts on the auto trannys are longer than manuals, or maybe the other way around but either way you're gonna need a new one.

hope this helps and good luck!!

NA's rarely pop at 100k... If its at a dealer make them do a compression test before you buy it. If you are giving them 2k they can use their compression tester and do one for free.

Hmm well like I said it just to introduce me, I can live with an auto but if I see a TII down the line I will snag it and drop this. I rather learn of this then a mint TII. Either way I'm all excited, everyone tells me to be pratical and keep my current car, g/f's dad say's I should get a truck. Ehh maybe but not now, I just want something fun. I will be getting the money 5k from an inheiritance, spending 2k on a car and putting 3k away for school seems like a good plan to me plus whatever I get for selling my current car. My mother dissagrees bc it on has 2 seats.

I will get pictures but we are debating on whether I should just wait for the money or go get it and pay off the loan when I get the money. Hmmm

Be patient and find a 5 speed for less money in similar condition. Look private party and it will be easy to find.

Really, do not get an auto. They should NEVER have made one for the 7. It drains all the life and soul out of the car.

Mine popped at 96K, after stupidly listening to the dealer, four months earlier, about how they go for at least 200K, used as airplane engines, yada-yada-yada. It ran so smooth I didn't think a compression test was necessary. I wish I knew then what I know now... still love the car tho.

Just make sure you have the money set aside for a rebuild; nothing worse than a dead car and no money to get it back on the road. Especially if its your only car.
