Gen 2 Where is the IAT sending unit?

I have purchased a timing mod resistor and need to know where the IAT or Coolant Temp Sensor is. Can anyone help? This is a non turbo.

hook it up now we can find out if this thing works (witch it won't but u never know) if its a s5 (89-91) model it on the driver side of the upper intake manifold, towards the fire wall (its a small 2 prong sensor) if it's an s4 (86-88) i don't know where it is.

good luck

If its a s4 it (temp sensor) should be just below and forward of the oilfilter.

Okay, the IAT is below the BAC on the right hand side of the throttle body. The coolant sensor (depends on which one) is either on the bottom right of the radiator, or the Water Thermo Sensor, is behind the water neck

either way, I would caution against the resistor. All directions are assuming you are standing at the front of your car facing back.

Not only does this "mod" not work, nobody here seems to know how to even install it...

It doesn't go on the air intake temp sensor, and it doesn't go of the coolant gauge sender under the oil filter. It's installed on the ECU's coolant thermosensor, which is on the back of the waterpump housing.

Actually I take that back. It doesn't go anywhere near your car...

Smile Thanks for your collective inputs

I have reviewed all the replys. Thanks to all of you. I think instead of installing this thing, I will live with the limited performance. Maybe some "snake oil" in the gas tank will work!!

Funny; you've been here since 11/01 and never thought to ask us about this before-hand. Oh well!
