gear lube brand - Style for rear differential
anyone know a good brand I should use in my rear diff since I am about to install it now that the rear suspension is done.
preferably something that is a general store brand not something I have to order online.
Thanks

*nods* Redline, or Royal Purple, or one of the other really nice (and fairly expensive) fully synthetic blends. You don't change your differential oil often enough that the cost is a major issue, and the somewhat reduced friction of the good stuff over the cheap stuff will lead to (slightly) better fuel economy and more wheel power due to reduced drivetrain losses. It's not going to be huge, but every little bit helps.

Any GL5 gear oil in the 80w90 or 75w90 weights can be used.
I'm a user of synthetics. Valvoline/Mobil1/Castrol/Royalpurple synthetics can be found at most autoparts stores.
The speedshops and 4x4 shops will usually have a selection of boutique oils like Redline/Neo/Amsoil........
Or, just buy the fluid online and have it delivered to your doorstep.

I had the same problem with finding Redline oils at the local parts houses, but I found an express lube place that carried it and I only spent $84 to have the tranny and diff fluids changed. They also added limited slip juice to the diff. So , I did not think that it was too much to for someone else to do it.

I found royal purple at my local auto-value which was sweet. and not too overpriced
So I got 3 quarts which will get me started, and then will grab last quart when tranny goes in

i couldnt find redline anywhere either so i just used what i had available at my work, which was penzoil synthetic 75w90. now that you mention the 4x4 shops having redline or others there is a big 4x4 specialties shop near by. ima have to check that out.
