Gauging the price of your car

hey all,

just wondering how all of you gauge how much your car is worth? obviously you would try judge your car against the same model. i have a 88AE and was just thinking how much the car could go for if i had an emergency and had to sell it. it's probably not going to go for a lot because the paint is all shot to hell.

i guess the better question is, if you had to sell your car right now: how much would you ask for and what would those mental justifications be?

for example:
I have model A and i could ask as high as $7500 because: reason1, reason2, etc...

thanks.

86-88 Turbo II, average condition, blown motor - $500 - $1500.

Add $500 for emaculate condition, add $500 for bodykit, add $500 for proper turbo system mods, and $500 if you have the 10th AE specific nose braw, squirters, steering wheel, floor mats, etc..

AEs unfortunately aren't really worth anymore to anyone other than enthusiasts.

I have two and have had offers on both and turned them all down simply because they mean far more to me than money.

Realistically, I could probably get $2000 for my worse-off one and $3000 for the decent one if I tried. Maybe slightly more depending. I had someone ready to give me $5k for my near-dead AE a couple months ago.

It varies so much it's hard to put a solid number on it.

Thumbs up

I've got a 10AE with 31k mi on it, I'm sure if I told you all how much I paid for it, you would fall off of your chairs laughing. But to me, it was worth every penny.

Now how might I go about finding a good set of floor mats and mabey one of those bras?

body kits depreciate the value of the car IMO

good stuff. it's a little disappointing though. wouldn't you agree?

you put all your time and energy into a car that joe public doesn't even know or care about and like someone said already ...kbb says 1500. if i followed kbb pricing, mine's worth 1300+ because of the paint.

i'm only asking this because i'm on the line between keep it for a little longer or give up and stick to a more practical car. finding really solid rotary mechanics or even local spare parts are getting harder and harder. for me, i was (still am) trying to bring my AE back to showroom condition but i had to cave in and get gray door panels for the time being. no one has black leather interior. my door panels came from mazda recycling and even they said that finding black leather interior in decent shape .. yea good luck.

just wanted to get everyone's thoughts.

The OEM bra is embroidered with the 10th AE logo, very collectible & worth a minimum of $500 on top of the asking price.

Lets see... my car is a 91 NA. Has a new motor in it with a little under 20k miles (I'd have to check the service records..can't remember exact mileage)

Has a new paint job, although it's a crappy one. Interior is 90% perfect, I keep the car in very good shape.

Assuming I took it to the body shop to fix the minor paint imperfections I would sell it to your average joe, for around 5000 bucks, since it basically appears and runs like a brand new car. If I were to sell it to someone who knows their **** (like a forum member) I'd probably drop it to 4000 due to the fact that the exhaust is trash right now.

Although, someone would actually have to offer me closer to $10k to make me actually part with it.

oonce you modify your car don't expect to get half of your money when you sell it.....I"d rather keep my car than waste all that money.

^That is why I want that bra. I probably wouldn't put it on, but it would be cool to have. I like having stuff for the sake of having it.

The difference between KBB and $6K is that KBB measures book value, not market value. KBB says $1500, but my T2 has pulled offers of 5 and 6. There's a big difference between book and market.

apparently.

blue and burgundy interior are the most popular colors laying around. gray is more rare and black is the rarest.

the person before me decided that an AE should have 10 speakers in it. =(. 4 stock speakers (dash and rear towers) + 2 tweeters before the door locks + 2 custom speaker boxes in the doors 2 4" + 2 3".

i might mix the gray and black since the gray door panels have the speaker covers in the middle while the black ones didn't. hmm... nah.

anyway, back on topic - doesn't market value reduce the chances of getting your car sold though? you'll spend more time trying to "convince" the buyer why you have placed a high price tag on it. i guess that goes with any car. the most common response is "pfft whatever, it ain't worth that much."
