Gauge problems in my 88 AE

HELP! I have put tons of time and money into my 10th Ann. AE, getting it ready for autocross. but then two nights ago i pulled my gauge cluster to install white-faced gauges, because i was having a very hard time seeing mine at night. Then the problems started. I struggled to get them back in, but finally did so, just to find the following...my Oil pressure gauge reads level at 0, with no change while driving. My temp gauge hangs straight down, and never moves. my boost gauge seems to work fine, and my fuel gauge doesn't work. it currently reads less than a 1/4 of a tank, and i just filled it two days ago, and have not drove it since. I took it out for a short drive to see if they would reset, but no luck! I think my speedometer might be messed up too (reading high), because i got passed by an Escalade doing what it said was 60 in a 55. please help! any ideas?

I didnt even do mine I had my 15 year old brother and his friend working on that they did it in about 1 1/2 hours. They didnt have any problems either are you sure you got the wires connected back up tight? The speedo thing cant even be a problem there is nothing that could change that reading other than tire size or a different speedo gear in the trans. Where I come from if youre doing 60 and your not getting passed its because there is a cop behind you, everyone here does AT LEAST 75 on the highway. Definately check to make sure the harness is plugged in snug.

The biggest problem was the speedo cable. Did you disconnect it at the guage cluster or down under the car.

At the cluster but my steering column was out at the time. I remember doing a speedo cable on a running car and it was a bitch connecting and disconnecting that cable.

If you'd replaced all of the bulbs that light the cluster with new ones you'd have noticed a significant improvement and have no problems seeing the gauges at night. Plus you wouldn't be having any problems or have cheezy looking gauges...

I was against it but my son over-ruled me. You see, this Slo Motorsports is a father-son thing. Now it is coming back to bite him in the ___. I'm trying to get him to pull them out.

Well i am glad to see my father likes to bad mouth me. I like the way they look, but i guess people have different opinions. The tach and speedo are fine, the only thing i am worried about is my other guages. I need to get them working again. i tried fiddling with the connector, and it is in pretty tight. other than that, i can't think of anything else. i read on a webpage on FC3S.org i believe that one of the guys there did the same thing, with the same outcome. So i guess it is not just something that has happened to me.

Hey. I just had a thought about my gauges. Can anyone check their fuse box to see if there is a fuse for the gauge cluster? I would check mine, but sadly it is at ESP (Enhanced Street Performance) having the tranny rebuilt. THanks Guys

The hanging down needles suggests that you pulled off the needles to install the [shudder] glow gauges.

If you pulled the needles off any of the small gauges, you busted the gauge and it will need to replaced or at the very least re-assembled correctly and re-calibrated.

Eh, problem fixed. I had just rotated the needles out of their operating range. So all i had to do was rotate them back, and they work fine now.
