Gauge Adjustment

The person I bought my car off of improperly installed white gauges, they slipped down a little bit and he never adjusted them correctly after this, so it displays the incorrect oil pressure and coolant temperature. How do I access the gauges to correctly adjust them (by this I mean like what do I remove and how do I make sure they don't slip)?

hehe....I just got done taking my white gauges out. I like my stockers better.

1. Take the screws out of the surround. Two in the bottom... three in the top
2. Pull the surround a couple of inches toward you and disconnect the plugs for the switches. Remove the surround.
3. Take out the Four screws securing the instrument cluster. Two on each side.
4. Pull the cluster out a little and then pull the left side out to where you can access the back.
5. Unplug the two round connectors and the speedo cable. The round connectors have tabs in the middle you have to push...old brittle plastic so be carefull. Pull the cluster out and disconnect the four little plugs for the white face gauges.
6. Unscrew the five screw holding the instrument cluster and it's cover together. There are three in the bottom and two in the top.
7. Adjust. You can carefully move the needles by hand, just turn them until you get to the end of there free movement and then turn a little more...it will take a few tries...especially with the speedo. After they are where you want them...they shouldn't move. Chances are the guy moved them when he put the faces on and never fixed it. Also, make sure the round part at the base of the needle does not rub on the new gauges. <---I had this problem...you can pry the base up a little with a small flathead screwdriver....just be carefull.

It's important to remember that this is old and VERY brittle plastic when reassembling. If you tighten screws just a hair too much...SNAP. Also the speedometer cable can be a little tricky to get back in because it has a square end...you have to try and twist the cable to get it in.

Good Luck!
