To update...
I received two Bandos from a member in Texas in Feb '02. They went in the car straight-away. Unfortunately, the Bandos were both the wrong size - 20mm longer than what I'd been using up until then.

I put one in anyway. I don't recall how long it lasted (I'll check the fuel log, it may be noted in there) before it stretched to the adjuster's max, but I then put the 2nd one in (and it's in there now.) I still have the Gatorback in the trunk, and even used it for a few weeks between the Bandos (I don't remember why - sorry. ) Obviously, the Gatorback didn't snap, and it doesn't otherwise appear to be excessively worn...
Not one drop of belt dressing or anything else (except water) has ever touched these belts. I'm inclined to blame the episode on the belt dressing that was used (and the Gates belts being too crappy to handle it for long.) I have neither found nor noticed anything to suggest that the problem is with the pulleys or their alignment. Also, the tension has always been set properly, with care to avoid over-tightening.
We'll see how the kevlar belt works out. It's going in tomorrow.

Okay, it's been just over a week with the kevlar belt.
I had to tighten it a little yesterday. And there is a little flap of material on the inside ring of the belt. I wonder if it's slowing coming undone... ?
Other than that, it's doing fine.
