Gasoline in my oil...How bad is this?? Will a 91' motor and tranny fit an 88?
Hey all.
Well, I changed the oil for the first time after I swapped motors in my 88' Vert. When I pulled the bung on the oil pan, the oil came out like water and there was a very strong smell of gasoline. I realize that this is really bad, but exactly how bad is it? Is this motor going to last much longer?
If I need a new motor I was going to buy one from a friend who wrecked his car. It is a 91' and I was hoping to pull it apart and rebuild it/port it. Is the porting worth the money (where to get it done)? Finally, will the engine and tranny fit into my Vert? Any information would be appreciated.
Regards,
Gavin

the gas is *sort of* normal. I think alot of people get it. I think it's from running to rich. I get a bit in mine. how many miles did you have on it between changes? you should be doing it every 2500-3000miles. the longer you wait the more gas you have.
the 91 won't fit unless you change everything, ecu, wiring harness, AFM, presure sensor, everying thing on the engine. and lastly you need to change the harness under your dash. you are better off to find a 86-88. with all the work it takes to put the 91 in you might as well drop a turbo one in. wouldn't be to much harder.

Thanks for the reply. I had just over 2k on the oil. I do have my 5th and 6th ports wired open, so she does run very rich. I suppose that could explain it.
About the engine, yes, I didn't think about all that. I would have the whole car, so it is theoretically possible to change all the parts and wiring, but it sounds like alot more work than just swapping motors.

the other option is to use just the 91 bare block, and use your manifolds, injectors, ecu, harness, and everything that bolts onto the engine. there are a few people doing it this way. I think there might be the odd problem, like some of the emissions not being able to work correctly. but I can't remember exactly.
