Gasoline leaking from charcoal canister

Gasoline leaking from charcoal canister

Hey Gang,
I have smelled gas occasionally when driving and just discovered that there is gas-smelling wet under the end of the hose which comes out the bottom of the charcoal canister.
Any ideas what's up with that?

well when the charcoal canister cant hold any more of the gas thats vented to it, it vents it to the atmosphere. so it looks like your charcoal canister keeps filling and then condensation or something happens when it vents it to the atmosphere

Okay. So, whadoido? Just replace it, or is there something causing this condition?

If you follow the output line from the charcoal canister, you'll see a check valve. Remove it and blow through that valve. It should not pass air in the direction toward the charcoal canister, but should flow freely in the direction that faces the dynamic chamber. My guess is it's clogged. Which would explain why the canister fills with gas. Unless of course, the charcoal canister is cracked. If my canister were cracked, I'd buy another one after figuring out why the original cracked. Some people may suggest just letting the vapors vent where they will. If the check valve it clogged you can try rinsing it with carb cleaner, or buying a new universal one.
