Gas tank question..

My TII has been sitting in my driveway for almost 2 years!..=(
Im worried about the gas tank though. Last time i drove it before it died it had an almost empty gas. Do i need to do anything to the tank before i start the car???..I will be replacing the fuel pump to a WALBRO and im wondering if i should do anything to the inside of the gas tank. Thanx

You might want to feed it some ATF before attempting to start it. Put a bunch in the spark plug holes and let it soak for awhile. Maybe turn the motor over after soaking and let it soak again. Hopefully your seals are still good.

fcturbo2,

Welcome back

You probably want to drain the tank. Optionally you can drop the tank (once drained) and check the fuel strainer inside the tank as well. It's basically a 2nd filter that just keeps the large particles from going through the fuel pump. Over time it can become clogged.

Of course changing the normal fuel filter would probably be a good idea as well.

Is this a straight engine swap or are you getting a ported motor and larger fuel injectors?

I have not decided if im going with a port job yet. As for now i have all the new parts to put a new motor together. The car will be mildly modded with a T04.

I pulled a pump at the wreck yard yesterday. The thing reeked of a heavy turpentine smell and when the pump was lifted out, the fluid(ain't gas no mo)in the strainer would not even drip out. Stayed in the clogged screen. Went to another car for the pump and left that thing where I found it. I think you should drain the tank, remove the pump and rinse it off and blow out the gas line from engine to tank. Talk about radical!

Definately throughly clean the entire fuel tank out with something strong!! Also I would just straight replace all of the rubber fuel lines, and throughly blow out any hard lines from front to back in direction.

How hard is it to drop the tank???..I dont mind cleaning it because i have time in this weekend. When you guys say blow do you mean blow it with pressure?..i have a compressor and an air blower attachment. Can i stick that attachment to the fuel lines and just blow it with the compressor???..
