Talking Gas Mileages. What are Yours!

Hey guys, i think i need to find a fix to my problem- Bad gas mileage. This is my first FC with a newly rebuilt, or newer engine. Everything works good except for a couple of minor things (Perhaps you have seen my other posts?) But i have gone threw quite a bit of gas from driving around. Some fast little burns threw 1st 2nd 3rd, and some moderate driving. Is 20 bucks in gas (63.9-69.3 per litre) in 4 days normal??? Or should i change the O2 sensor to see if i get better. Let me know what your gas mileage is at. Thanks a bunch

I doesn't matter the $$$ but how you drive it. I normally get between 12-18 MPG (one of the worst around here), must of my of my driving (98%) is in the city or light to light, combined with a "spirited driving".....MPG = SUCKS!

However I just got over 315 MPG on my trip to NY

DC350,

My last full tank netted me 430km. My needle was pretty much at E and the gas light came on frequently. I'm sure I could have got 450km or so had I not pushed it a few times

This was from Surrey -> UBC 4 times last week.

I average around 15mpg, I think I need to get a lighter foot. I want to see some numbers on cars with porting. Street, Bridge, Peripheral, doesn't matter.

Here's my last tank. No upgrades so far other than suspension and exhaust. 1986 base N/A.

224 miles on 12.809 USgallons = 17.49 mpg

I redline everyday at least a few times, and drive 'spriited' most of the time. This is for mostly city driving to/from work during the week. I know its only a base, no turbo, but at least this is an example.

I just checked my '86 NA. About 8 or 9K after overhaul is is getting 23.8 MPG. This is highway driving, and not much full throttle operation

My old GXL used to get at best 12mpg. But I drove that car pretty much at redline al the time. On the highway I would get 15mpg again I would be racing people on the highway. The worst I got was 9mpg that was from a night of cruisin the strip.

22 if I am on the highway for the whole tank, which doesn't mean I'm not on the gas, and 17 if I am driving like a 16 year old in Dad's Corvette.

I think allot of people around here need a tuneup, plugs, wires, exhaust ugprades, and new O2 sensors.

One guy SWORE all TIIs got 10mpg??? I'm getting ~21mph on a 55mile commute.

Mine was after a new motor and everything still got shitty gas mileage. I just assumed that if you want to drive a cool a$$ car you have to pay for it some how.

Hmm..

Normal Driving I can push about 350 km per tank city, 450km city/highway mixed and I pulled off a whopping 600 km on a pure highway trip cruising between 100-120 km the whole way.

I never cruise below 160kph (thats what got me a 150EUR fine last weekend )

That's a pile of BS. A rotary shouldn't use much more gas than any other engine making the same power. If it does, something is wrong.
An out-of-tune car with **** gas mileage is nothing to brag about, it just means you don't know squat about tuning. If your S-AFC wasn't "hellafied rich" you'd be getting more power and using less gas.

Oh yeah ? So what about my TII, which had TWO tune-ups in the last 6 months, and still gets one of the worst gas mileages I've seen ?

....of course, my less-than-perfect exhaust might have something to do with this, as well as a not-so-perfectly-working O2 sensor (but both still work -kinda)

oh so sorry for bragging Mr. nzconvertible me so sorry!!!!! by the way how do you know that the rotary should use the same gas as any other engine of same power????

my safc isnt hellified rich, i lowered the fuel but didint change the sig. i was always under the impression that the nature of the rotary is to be a gas guzzler, even mazda knew that!

Sounds too me like there are a lot of people with motors seriously out of tune with only 10-15 MPG

I get around 17-18 in the city and around 25 with the top down on long trips at 80-90 MPH.

and this is with a 'vert with a 13BT in it... granted the motor only has 2000 miles on the re-build, but still if I was getting 12 MPG I'd go fix my car 'cause there is something broken.

Not really, It all depends on the way you drive, how manyu stops and go you have to do in the city, etc!
