gas leak
gas leak
My 87 RX-7 (base) has developed a slow gas leak again. I can barely detect the gas smell, but I can't locate the source. This is the third time my car is leaking gas. The first time was the pulsation damper, and the second time was one of the primary fuel injectors (the two injectors that are in the inside). I had the pulsation damper fixed and two of the primary injectors replaced.
I looked at the two injectors on the outside, but I can't see any leakage. I didn't see any wet spot near the pulsation damper. If you have any suggestions, please let me know.
P.S. the gas smell seems to be irregular. Most of the time I can smell it when I turn on the fan (AC doesn't work). The fan is on the fresh setting, but sometimes I couldn't detect any gas smell at all even when I was sniffing at the engine compartment.
Thanks
Alan

there is a hose about 1 foot long running from the bottom of the fuel filter to the steel fuel line. On my 91 it was just about shot; it was cracked so bad, I couldn't believe it still worked. Probably worth checking. And if it is bad, make sure you replace it with a fuel line hose and not a rubber hose.
There is a thing called a charcoal canister located (always looking forward) in the right, aft part of the engine bay. It collects gas fumes from the tank I think. If it is missing or the lines are disconnected, the fumes WILL be picked up by the fresh air vent and you'll smell it in the car. If that is not it, take the dynamic chamber off. The jumper that connector near the r/H strut tower that is made for pressurizing the fuel system. Now the rails and all lines are pressurized and you should see any leak. Key must be in the on position for this to work. Engine not running(could'nt if it wanted to). The wife's car had the charcoal canister prob cause I was too lazy to replace the canister, and my car had the smallest pin hole leak in a fuel line just behind the altenator. Lets see now, fuel spray on altenator. Not good. Just lucky no fire. If none of the above works.....got me. Oh yeah. Like SAMPS said, make sure its FUEL INJECTOR LINE that you replace, not just fuel line.
