Gas Guage normal?

My '88 SE's gas gauge reads "E" when I've used only about 12 gallons. Never had the light come on, though. I've never put more than 12 gallons in it. Time to replace the sender, I guess.

All S4's have a 63L (16.6gal) tank, all S5's have a 70L (18.4gal) tank.
