which gas

so i heard on the news that there was a biofeul that is now being sold for $3.69 a gal. its supposed to be %85 alcohol and %15 gas,

my question is is it worth trying this new fuel and possibly saving money on gas, OR should i just fill up with cheveon at thier new LOW LOW price of $4.13 a gal?

Running any kind of alternate fuel would likely need some major adjustments in timing and fuel injection. Not to mention possible replacement of fuel lines with something that will withstand the alcohol.

That's called E85. 85% ethanol...its made from corn here in the states. Rotary engines can run it with the right adjustments, but our cars weren't designed with it in mind. It will degrade the rubber in the fuel lines and such, so you would have to do a lot of work upgrading seals and hoses to use it long term. It also burns efficiently at a richer ratio than gas, so you will get worse mileage and have to adjust the fuel maps.

The nice things are that it is cheaper, cleaner, and effectively much higher octane so it is like getting free race gas....i.e. you can make more power on it.

The bottom line is that since you will have to run a richer mixture your gas mileage would suffer and you would end up spending the same for gas after a whole lot of work. It's only worth a conversion if you want to feel good about reducing emissions or raise boost to make more power.

Our stock ECUs can NOT run E-85. Unless your car is entirely converted to include an aftermerket ECU, larger injectors, and larger fuel pump to START with. It gets even harder when you factor in lines/etc..
