My tack isn't working and worked not long ago. I just go t my car to run again. it had run out of gas and was sucking the bad junk at the bottom of the tank. anyways which fuse controls the tack? any help would be great. thanks

I belive your tach signal comes from the trailing coil. If that was bad I wanna say you wouldn't have a working tach.
Also did you happen to pull your fuel injection fuse in the engine bay when you were having fuel related problems? This has caused my tach to stop working momentarly in the past.

the fuse for the tach is the same as for the rest of the gauges (the Meter fuse).
If the tach is not working chances are that the trailing coil is not firing, or the screws on the back of the cluster are loose or dirty.

the trailing coil is firing. I checked the spark on it the other day. which fuse is the meter fuse?
is it under the hood or in the car? thanks. and yes i did pull the injection fuse a few times while unflooding. i don't think the gas gage is working either. the speedo is though. thanks for the help.

The speedo is mechanical, but all of the other gauges (tach, fuel, oil pressure, temp, voltage/boost) are fed from the same fuse. If any of them are working then the fuse is fine.
If you definitely have trailing spark and the fuse is okay, it's probably a problem with the tach itself. Pull the cluster and look for loose or correded screws as Mark suggested.

With your knuckles, rap on the face of the combination meter. If it's a flakey connection the tach might start working. Works for me on occasion.
But if your having trouble tacking your boat, try jibing instead.
