Funny Noise when turning Steering wheel

I just recently purchased an 87 GXL 69k on the clock. Super nice ride. One problem though. When I turn the wheel I get a funny creaking metal sound from under the hood. It is the weirdest sound that I have ever heard. It reminds me of a metal\aluminum cable noise. Can't tell if it is metal or a grommet noise. Has anyone had this problem? If so any idea what the fix is or what exactly it is? It's not really that loud either.

I get that too. I'm not sure what it is, but it has yet to cause me to take issue with it.

I get that in my manual steering TII, sounds kind of like creaking rubber bushings to me. I was wondering if it could be the rack rubber isolator bushings, they had a dose of oil contamination Did anyone fix this noise?

That seems to be basically normal for RX-7's. They aren't supposed to do it, but most of them do. From what I understand it is caused by the top strut mount, they wear / get old and cause a creaking, which is especially noticable in colder weather. The only true "fix" is to replace the upper strut mount @ a cost of ~$60 a piece. I was also told that unless the noise bothers you... that it's not worth replacing them... it doesn't hurt anything.

Take care,
