funny noise

Well my engine( I guess) started making a funny noise. It is RPM dependant and you can't hear it after like 3k I believe. Its kind of a whine. I can't hear it from the outside, only through the dash. I really can't figure it out, I hope it goes away when I get my engine rebuilt though. Any ideas?

Ok, I narrowed it down some. Apparently it is not RPM dependant directly. It depends on my voltage. At lower RPMs voltage goes to around 13.5-13.7. Brakes, lights, a/c all have an effect on the noise and its volume. The noise is something like a pulley noise, not sure really though. Do alternators make any noise before they go out? I've never had one do so, but you never know.

It means you have to many restrictions on your exhaust system. I can't even hear my radio, much less a whine noise from the dash The 3" open pipes with dual N1's prevent any "funny" noises.

Well it actually goes away at higher RPMs. The lower the rpm the louder the noise. I noticed my voltage went down to 10.5 at idle with the ac on full and my foot on the brake. Most I could get it up to with the ac on and cruising was like 13.2. It also seems like the ac doesn't blow as hard as it did last week when I drove my car.

wELL I would redo all my grounds just for the hell of it. But does sound like to be alternator related. Check the belt and see if it tight. IT might be slip at high RPM ro under heavy load.

Well at high RPMs the sound goes away. I checked to see if it was loose and it wasn't.
