Funky adapter between Speedo Cable & Tranny

Okay... I tried to take a pic of it but I can't find my camera cable to hook it up to my PC. So I'll have to describe it for now. There's a funky object between my J-spec TII transmission speedometer cable output and the actual speedo cable itself. It screws in like the stock speedo cable and the stock speedo cable screws into it, but there are these two wires coming out of it. When I got the tranny these wires were disconnected from everything. But there is no equivalent on my NA tranny and I don't see this part in the FSM. Can anybody tell me if this is a Jspec -> Aspec difference or if its just an aftermarket speedo sensor?

Also, I tried turning the shaft on this device to see if it was a ratio adjuster (was hoping it would tell me I had a 4.3 LSD in the car) but it seems to be exactly 1:1 on the output after 20 or 30 turns there was no noticable difference in the output versus input angle.

Anyway, anybody have any clue what this is?

My guess would have been a ratio adjuster also.

Hmm - maybe some kind of aftermarket electronic speed sensor?

donor car probably had an electronic speedo, and they had to install the box that counts the revolutions of the speedo gear/connect to given an electronic signal to the speedo.
