functional hood scoop

I'm trying to get a little insight as to what I'm gonna do for a hood. I just got a TII engine and tranny for my convertible, I have to run the stock ic for a little while so I was wondering if anyone threw a functional hood scoop on a na hood. I'd appreciate it if you have any pics you might want to post.

By far the easiest thing would be to scrounge up a turbo hood.
Even one with some minor damage will do until you get the FMIC & can use the NA hood.

I would guess your best bet will be just to Buy a Used TII Hood on your vert.......easiest way to do it.

thats crossed my mind 100 times, I live in charlotte county florida , the county that was just destroyed by that hurricane. My county has the most old people in it than any other city or county in the whole united states, and none of them drive rx7's.There is one turbo in this town, and my best friend owns it. I've tried to get his hood among many other parts. I looked everywhere around where I live, the closest I found hood was in homestead, 5 hour drive away. so you kinda see where I'm comin from. If you have pics of hood scoops on a rx7 let me get some pics.

Front-mount the stock IC. It'll work a lot better.

There was a kit fot he N/A's that allowed you to fabricate a scoop right above the ram air on the hood. You of course had to cut out the area and mold the scoop on yourself, but it was available.

I personally think the best way is to use the TII hood, and at that point see if you can make some kind of duct system out of a mold or just anything really that goes to the air intake. The only thing that I would be worried about would be water, as in heavy rain. I don't know if this is an issue with ram air, but when it rains heavy I would think going at 100mph the engine is gonna be sucking in alot of air, and theres going to be alot of air raming in, forcing water in there with it!

well i mean, heavy rain or light, the scooped hood will collect water....

for the stock TII hood, since i am using a FMIC, i only hope that the design is good enough that the water will lightly pass through in the engine... i mean with the TMIC, shouldn't the water issue be the same?

so i think (i hope) mazda engineers designed it so that the water will not affect alot.... TMIC or not ^_^ (yeah.. thats a big HOPE)

I think it would be easiest to get a TII hood, like others have mentioned. Mine was sourced from Orlando. Sometimes you have to buy things outside your hometown.

Otherwise, the Capri scoop looks similar to the stock TII scoop:

Universal aftermarket scoops are also available:

I think this thread is about making a functional hood scoop to duct air into the stock intercooler, not the enigne intake.
