fumes in coolant?
fumes in coolant?
i have a question about overheating. my car has been overheating for sometime now, i've done the test and pulled out the egi fuse and cranked the car like 10 times and didn't see nothing pop out of the radiator with the cap off.
but i noticed that my coolant smells like exhaust it doesn't smoke on start but i think i have an exhaut leak some where. could this make the coolant smell like gas or something? cuz my car starts up fine it doesn't smoke and if it does, it doesn't smell like coolant.
im replacing my fan clutch tommorow because u can stop easily when its at operatings tempatures and doesn't seem to be blowing enough air. also i have shut off the car after heat up tempatures and the fan spins easily.
my water pump has been changed *supposevly from the past owner*. brand new thermostat good thermo stat housing, i've also checked the radiator for clogging but it seems to all be flowing and i've taken it to the radiator shop he said it can't be the radiator. the radiator has been flushed and filled with fresh coolant im hoping this madness will end this friday... and on cold nights my cars temp doesn't go over the middle like it does on warm days could this be the final answer?!
any comments and suggestions are welcomed thanks!

Do you have the black plastic piece on the bottom of the car that covers the oil cooler, radiator, etc? Also make sure that the incoming air does not have too many choices of where to go, i.e. make sure it flows through the radiator.
put the belly pan back on & that'll help a lot...if your housings are old (hasn't been rebuilt in a LONG time), you could have a pinhole in one of the rotor housings causing your smell, but if it's not pressurizing the cooling system while running, it can't be that big...the gage will show a lower temp when the weather's cold and higher when hot- just know what the normal positions are so that you'll know if anything's going wrong...you're also gonna have people telling you not to trust the OEM gage, but I've never had a prob with mine (S4)...all your problems could just be the fan clutch (and underbelly pan)
