Unhappy Full wallet, but empty heart

Yesterday I handed over the title of my car to it's new owner.

She (the car) fought me the whole way. The first time she was supposed to go(2 days ago), she promptly lost her ground to the secondary injectors 10 minutes before the buyer arrived. I felt like an idion explaining that it 'just lost power' and it had to go to my mechanic to get diagnosed since I didn't have the time or the talent to fix it. A day later I picked the car up and it ran well, but the shifter had an unusually large amount of play in first and second gear. It turned out that the upper shift bushing had completely desintegrated. A quick trip to Mazda and the shifter felt like new again. Sniff, just like new.

October would have been the 7th year we were together. The car has been a ball (and sometimes chain) to own but time has come for me to move on. Being an avid autocrosser, my next car will be a Miata(with a turbo soon after), so I'm at least staying in the Mazda family. I was hoping the RX-01 which was first shown several years ago would have been a reality by now so I could have stayed a Rotarian as I've 'rotary only' since 1993.

On a positive note, my car is going to a good home. The new owner is a big rotary fan who's wanted one for years. Her mom owns a third gen as well, so it'll be an RX-7 family. She (the car) gets picked up to go to it's new home today. I'll miss her.

Well maybe it was just time to move on. At least you have a vert to keep you happy for a while... unless that's the one you sold. If so, replace it with another quickly! Did you plan to replace it?

If you promise to buy the rotary miata when it's released - we won't fault you.

Take a look at the RX-8 as your family car when it comes out as well (4 seats, baby seat, huge trunk, good crash test scores).

Yep, it's the vert that got sold.
I drove (and almost bought) a 200hp Bell Engineering Turbo Miata 2 months ago. The power & reliability had me hooked. To match that acceleration in the RX-7, I'd need 270-300hp. While that was attainable for a similar price, the cornering capabilities were not. There's just so much a 3000lb car can do in the corners.

Thru a few twists of fate, I met the now new owner who was looking for an RX-7 with a history - meaning someone who had it for a fair period of time and could give a status on any/all the questionable areas of the car. ~7 years and more FAQ fixes than I'd care to think of ($$$) was exactly what she wanted.

When the next rotary powered car rolls into the showroom, I'll be one of the first in line to consider buying it. Until then, I'll be 'boingin .

yo

miatas are bad ***. thier desing was reminicent of the rx-7. Thiers a bodykit from erbuni called shogun that makes them look mean as all hell. I want a 1.6 gready turbo for gas mileage and speed. Thier feel of torque is what makes them fun for me. I will always like rx-7 better though. nothing beats top end fun. vrooooom 9000rpm baby.

The MD chip is for real. It was designed and tested on a dyno.
I never got change to dyno, but if you do a search you'll find someone who bought one recently and gained a peak of 13hp to the wheels. The torque at 3k is outstanding.

IF you can get ahold of Mario, it's definately worth the $300 he's now charging. I paid $425 for mine 3 years ago.

Yep, still got the Big Red Machine. Until I get another car, it's going to require quite a bit of restraint to not autocross it.
It shares the same bolt pattern with the RX-7 and I've got a set of BBS 15x7 with Kuhmo V700's sitting in my garage

I didn't realize you had a Maxima too! We were someithing of a matched set. To hell with restraint. Last year I won my class autocrossing the Maxima locally. It drove the sports car guys nuts. The Miatas could barely stay ahead. Bolt on those Kumhos and go have some fun.

Talking

Don't worry Chris, as you said the car definitely went to a good family.. This isnt my first experience with an RX-7 but will be my first time owning one. I have been in and around them for more than 10 years.

Thanks very much for being so honest in your dealings with me Chris. I really appreciate that. You made this buying experience a very good one. Despite going through what we did.

And lastly, I have never driven a female car. Is it weird for a female to drive a female car. Or do you get to change the sex when you buy it?

Thumbs up

No, you cannot go around changing names unless you change "her" transmission :p

Chris, what other car are you looking to get ?

Just for kicks I swapped the RX-7s rims with the Maxima's, it was hilarious, I'll see if I find some pics

I might auto-X the Max when I get new springs/struts(waiting for the NEW KYB AGXs), I already have Porterfields, FSTB, and RSB

I could be considered a man now that is has 'a firmer stick'.

I'm Miata shopping. Since the RX-7 was with me for ~7 years, I've decided to go for exactly what I want with no compromise. So, it'll be a 95 or 96 montego blue. After the first year of ownership, it'll get force fed.

The convertible was a great cruiser, but I had run into a wall autocrossing that couldn't be passed unless I started spending cubic dollars.
