Full exhaust advice
Full exhaust advice
car is an 88 GXL. just patched a section of the exhaust that was shot and the damage is worse than I thought. There is a stripped nut on one of the studs that holds the downpipe to the header and with the rest of the damage I figured it is about time to replace everything from the header to the tips.
I am on a seriously tight budget, so im assuming a single exit is the most cost effective. who makes a full system? everything I found besides RB covers cat back or just a header, and I figure mis matching companys will need some fabrication to make it all work and im looking for a direct bolt in affair.
Any suggestions?

Corksport is cheap. Lots of people say its really loud because it only consists of a single muffler. But it bolts to your stock cat, which should quiet it down if you still have it. You could always try to find a silencer for the muffler too.

Cheapest exhausts would be Corksport and eBay exhausts. Almost everything else for the FC is expensive. Why not get a shop to make one for you? Once you've got the mufflers you want, the piping is cheap and doesn't take long. Could be done for ~400.
You can get the Racing Beat Street Header/Bönez Cat System from rx7.com and use the stock cat back. Most of your hp gains will be from the header and high flow cat.
If your cat back is junk you can replace with new oem it would flow better then keeping a 25 year old cat back and it would be quiet and sound pretty nice.

Yeah the cat literally rusted off the flanges from the cat back and down pipe and was literally just resting on the flanges. Plus the downpipe has 2 small holes by the hanger, y pipe has a crack and looks to be a home made piece. Everything is so rusted that I doubt I can even get the bolts off of the flanges, can I even replace the stud on the header? If so I might just keep the header.
I'm not worried about noise cuz I doubt anything can be louder than it dumping after the DP. I was considering having a shop make a system but I don't think they would be up to making a header, and the last time my uncle had a resignator replaced it cost almost 300 for them to cut a generic resignator and weld it in.

Yea you can replace the stud from the manifold. When mine broke off I replaced it with a bolt. If you keep your manifold get a bonez super flow cat or the bonez dual cat and what ever cat back.
Should I be able to knock the stud out without taking the manifold off or does it need to come out? If i keep the manifold what can i use to replace the downpipe and cat with? I do not need a cat, so is there a silencer that will bolt to the header and cat back, or am i stuck with using a cat?
And thanks for all the help.
