probably roasted the water seals and are loosing compression into your coolant chambers

do this:
1. make sure that bitch is cooled off and check the radiator to make sure that **** is filled to the top.
2. take the cap off that ************ and start the car.

if bubbles come up out of the radiator, you're fucked.
if coolant pours out of the radiator, you're more fucked in the ***.
if coolant shoots out like a geiser, you're double fucked in the ***.

i suspected that i had a blown water seal so i did this test, however i cranked it and didnt start it (car wouldnt start at the time.) cranking should produce the same effect (if your car doesnt start.) Since there is compression, air would still get through the water seals, causing your **** to bubble with the cap off that bitch.

i'm out this piece.

Well, I must say that was an unusual response, but he has the right idea, you can check for bubbles in the overflow container (thus avoiding a old faithful effect if it is bad) when the car is running, if it's bubbling, time to rebuild! If not, it could be a number of other things.
