full boost = going no where?

I am realy lost on this one. The car has all the boost in the world but it want go anywhere. It doesn't matter how much boost i give it either, it will do the same thing at stock boost as it will at 15psi. I've checked all the plugs and wires, going to go check the ohms on the coils in a little bit. I did the atf trick to see if it was posably a sticking apex seal and that didn't help. Any ideas as to what it could be??

it has kind of a lope in the idle but its not bad, one thing i noticed though, is as the boost comes up there is like a humping sound coming from the drivers side of the engine bay. Also while driving on the interstate, the car has no power, the turbo spools all the time just to maintain 60mph. there is also no low end power, what really gets me is this is an all the sudden type thing. It only started acting up when the weather got cold, first it blew the engine fuse and now this?

I would do compression test first...

while you are down there make sure you have spark from all 4 wires.

check all other fuses under hood and kickpannel

Either you have an intake leak (leaking just under boost) or your cat is plugged...

i have a racing beat cat replacement pipe w/presilencer but i did notice that the last time i took the downpipe off i wasn't able to remove the presilencer from the cat, it was almost as if the bolts where welded on, because the impact wrech wasn't able to turn them either. I have suspected a leaking injector and the cat could have died as a result of that.

I'm going to head down to the car here in a bit and see what I can't figure out. I'll post my findings, thanks for the help everybody, keep the ideas comming!

Sorry for such the delay, but when i went to go check my mulitmeter was dead, so I had to get a new one. Here's what I found on the ingintion, the leading coil gave me an ohm reading of 1.4 ohms, according to the FSM its susposed to be under 1 ohm. the trailling coils gave me 1.7ohm on the one closest to the front and 1.8 ohms on the one next to the firewall. What are the rear coils susposed to read as far as ohms? Because it read 1.4 on the front coil is it shot or is it still good?

Testing the coils with a meter is annoying since most of the time you are measuring the resistance of the probes and connections as well as the coil. Easiest way to test is to use a spark tester. It's a small spark plug that you clip to the engine and watch the spark. $5 at any auto parts store.

Though I will side with Ted on this that you have an exhaust restriction. It is possible for the cat(s) to collapse and plug up the mufflers.

i just went out and removed the catback, the cat is clear, the y pipe is clear the cans are clear. I figure it has to be ignition or fuel, i'm only getting 170miles/tank which is way low. plus it smokes from time to time not just a little a whole lot, now my OMP is removed so its not coming from that and my premix ratio is right so I know thats not it. if a side seal was leaking it would do it all the time not on and off. So that has to either be a leaking injector or the ignition is not sparking hot enough to burn everything. does my reasoning sound right or have I over looked something?

check your leading coil to see if its sparking. Same thing happened to my car a little while ago. Turned out to be a toasted leading coil because I grounded it by accident. Good Luck

the leading coils have spark, wile i was working, i accledently(sp) started the car with out the wires on the coil, i could hear the leading coils gapping and quickly realized what I had done and shut the car off.

heres something new i just found. just now when I went outside to work on the car, after i jacked it up, i found oil on the outside of the manifold where it connects to the turbo and on the backplate of the turbo where the wastegate is. seeing that I thought the turbo might be bad, but after checking the turbo it has very little play. So, i pulled the ic off and there is no oil in it. so I'm going to rule out the turbo.

Now, when I removed the upper plenum there is what appears to be oil (i say appears because I'm running premix and whatever it is, it looks like oil and smells like oil and gas) in the two larger holes on on the upper and lower manifolds. but only in the large holes. I have 680cc injectors in the secondarys, could they be injecting too much oil/gas mix and causing this?

have you checked the compression yet?

that fact that you said "it just happened when it got cold" and the fact that you are hitting 15psi isn't too good...

nope, haven't check compression yet, the car can run at 15 but is normally limited to 12, 15 was just used as example above. don't believe its a compression problem it you turn the engine over by hand, you can hear all the compression strokes, and they are the same volume. I will check the compression with an test anyway as soon as I can get access to one. Any other ideas?

Check your vacume lines between your turbo and intercooler. i left one of those loose once and had a similar problem. it sounded like it was getting boost, the guage said it was getting boost, it was just blowing all the boost out beforethe ic. rubber actually expands when it gets cold, you might have had a hose that was losing it's elasticity and got blown off

Why waste your money??? Just use a spark plug sitting against a ground

I am not a master with cars or anything, so just probing here...

have you tried redlining it in neutral? also see how power feels in reverse.

i'm not going to redline it in neutral but reving in neutral is sluggish. The car does the same thing in reverse as in drive.

Here's the lastest, today, i tightened the manifold and the turbo. took the upper intake off and checked all the lines, and replaced my themostat. Not thing ground breaking, but yet when I went to drive back to school today, I couldnt make it 5 miles from the house. The car had now power and was smokeing so bad, some one called the fire department and told them there was a car on fire!!!! what could have changed in the corse of the day that would cause that!? I've double checked everything, its all hooked up right, I've got to get this thing fixed or at lest pen point the problem so i know.

are you sure that you have good compression on your rear rotor? it sounds like the compression was low and it finally gave out. just a thought... it seems like you're checked everything else. the only other thing i could think of is a very very restricted exhaust, like a clogged cat, but you say you checked that.
the reason i think you could have low compression on atleast one rotor is because you were running 15 lbs of boost...

N1XRR: Because using a regular spark plug is a pain in the *** and can be dangerous.

Ridge Tech: Do a compression test. The oil in your turbo is probably due to a bad seal on the turbine side. This causes the smoke.

If you have 680 CC injectors with no fuel control, they will seriously flood the engine at around 3K.

Leaking injectors is definitly a possability. Swap with known good units to test.

I will do a compression test, but i'm waiting for the checker. I think it would be best for me to list my mods for everyone,

copy and pasted from my site:
Engine Internals: Streetporting

Exhaust: Racing Beat down pipe and Pre Silencer, Greddy Power Extreme Cat Back

Fuel System: Apex'i S-AFC, 680cc secondary's

Intake & Air Control: 3" TID, TB mod, FCD, Blitz SBC-ID, 1G Eclipse BOV

god i hope its not a seal, i just spent 3k on this freaking engine not 2 years ago, there is only 10k on the engine.

I'm thinking there's internal engine damage...You're going to need more than two 680s to support that engine at 15 PSI, especially on the stock IC.

I dont run at 15psi, the best i can remember its only gone that high maybe twice wile i was setting the boost controller. normally i run at 12 to 13 max. I only said that to get my point across. I'll do a compression check as soon as i can, I guess that will tell me for sure.
