fuel system help: is this normal?
First of all, I am finishing up an auto to manual swap on a 90 GXL. YAY! . But I am having problems getting the car started. One of the problems was that the MAF sensor was unplugged (doh) fixed that. Well, I had THOUGHT that I had flooded the engine. So I pulled the spark plugs and pulled the EGI fuse to blow out all of the gas. Put the spark plugs back in and the car still will not start. It's capable of starting because when I first cranked it the car started up! but it died shortly after (MAF sensor). So I don't think I have any compression or dead engine issues.
Now, for the weirdness.
When I cut the car off but leave it in the "on" position I can hear the fuel pump running(high pitched hum) and I can hear fuel gurgling around the fuel rails. This leads me to believe that the car is still pumping fuel even though it is off. Is this correct? should it be doing this? Any other tricks I can try to get this baby started?

fuel pump shouldn't run with the ignition key on unless the car is running. sometimes the pump will go for a sec when the key is turned on. check to see if the yellow connector at the right front strut tower area isn't jumped. that's about all i can tell you.
